Gas line/engine problem

So I get out to the lake on Sunday and start pumping the fuel line ball but don't get any fuel going to the engine. I pump and pump and pump and nothing happens. Needless to say I wasn't too happy as it ruined my day of fishing. I get home and see if there is a clog in the fuel lines; there isn't. I see if there is a clog in the fuel tank/line connection; there isn't. Anyone has this before? I'm thinking it might be the actual ball now so will probably just buy a new one tomorrow, but wondered if anyone had dealt with this before? The reason I think it is the ball is because I submerged the bottom end of it in water and started pumping; shouldn't it suck water up and push it through the other end?? Mine did nothing so I'm really hoping that is the problem. The worst part is I started the engine up a couple weeks ago and had no issues getting fuel through the fuel line and into the engine.

This will wear out after a while especially if it's older and not friendly with the new gas. If I was you I would replace the whole fuel line just to make sure it can handle the ethanol.

Add StarTron to your gas, to deal with that Ethanol crap. I have a 92 Johnson 40hp and when I close it out this year I will disconnect the oil line. The tank builds pressure and puts a lot of oil into the carbs, in the spring I'll pump out some of the oil and re-connect. I forgot, like Will said I replace the gas line and ball, they do wear out.

Not a bad idea to change out the bulb and fuel lines every year. At least every other year for sure. Doesn't cost too much to do, especially with a small boat. It will save you troubles and money in the long run. Cheap lines will get brittle. And by that time, the ethanol has already done damage to the inside of the line. Obviously, a quick check to make sure everything is tight would be the first thing. Good luck.

Bought a new fuel line today, hooked it up and everything worked perfectly! Now my question is, anyone have a good tip on how to get the fuel line tighter to the gas tank connection? (see pic below)

This may sound overly simple but what if you push…?? Sorry couldn't resist. Is that the right size hose for that fitting? It looks small but that may just be the photo. You should be able to slide it on with a little effort but not too much and then lock in place with a hose clamp.

Push, never thought of that!! It was a b*tch to remove from the old hose too so maybe it is a little small. The connection to the motor (pic below) fit perfectly though so not sure what to think.

I'm guessing it's just the temperature, if it was late summer that would probably push right on. Bring the hose inside and warm it up and then go back out and try. I would say just heat it up with a lighter but obviously not if its already had fuel through it.

A little transmission fluid goes a long way… Will slide right on and shrink back up.

Pull it back off if you can, heat the hose a little with a hair dryer, then grab the gray hose about 1.5-2 inches back from deepest the brass fitting will go in and push HARD.

There are two different sizes, but you should still be able to get the smaller one on there better with a little more effort.

I will also add that I have had one of those fittings get warped badly where the hose connects. It restricted the fuel going to the motor. Always good to have an extra one of those on hand too…

Silicone lube/spray will slide all the way on. Do not over apply the dc242(?) or it will end up in your filter. My etec started right up even thoigh my bulb is shot, first time since November 🙂

There are supposed to be 2 ethanol free gas sources in the GR area. I will try the Standale one in the next couple of days and confirm if they still have it.

Van Manen oil company on M45 in Standale, just west of Meijers has a tank of "Recreational Use Only" gas with no ethanol. 90 octane, $3.885 per gallon. I get by there often enough that I should be able to keep up with what my boats and mower need.
