Lately we have been having these fronts coming in one after another, with alot of lightning and rain. Is it me or has this slowed the fishing down?

Steve I was out last Sunday afternoon for 4 1/2 hours with out a rip. I had frounts moving in and out. I thought it would be great for fishing. But not a fish. May have had some lightning hit the lake lake last week. But the fishing was slow for me.

This weather has been crazy, Fred B and I fished the Ottawa with Marc Thorpe the 16th thru the 19th and had high winds and thunderstorms moving around every day. It screwed the fishing up some but we still managed 9 fish. Maybe the river bite is less affected by this weather. Marc said normally we would have done much better had we had sunny days.

A wize man once told me: sunny days=bigger fish.I didnt really believe
it until I went looking through my photos and most of my bigger fish(which aint alot!) were caught on sunny days.As far as patterns and fronts go….heck Im still trying to figure that out.

Kid, you got me thinking on this (Dangerous). As I recall all of my pictures are on sunny days, a few in early morning or evening. I always thought the cloudy days were best, because the baitfish would be out, and I don't have to slap on so much sunscreen. But know I'm thinking that on a sunny day the baitfish go and hide and your bait your throwing is the only baitfish out there, so there is a better chance of a strike. Will, chime in any time on this, Thanks, Steve [smilie=attention.gif]

To put this in a nutshell for Steve… Fronts usually provide low light conditions which will cause fish to move shallow (feed) at times other than early and late in the day. With more stable weather we get more predictable fishing because the fish are doing what we expect them to do when we expect them to do it. That means they'll be deep when we expect them to be deep and shallow when we expect them to be shallow. With constant fronts I expect to locate more fish deep or suspended and don't expect movements early or late in the day to be anything special.

I don't have much experience in this game yet, but my 3 biggest fish this year (38, 42, 45) all came on overcast days. By "overcast day" I mean the kind of day where the low, dark clouds hang around all day long, not these quick fronts that have been blowing through one after the other. These 3 fish were also very aggressive when striking — no lazy follows back to the boat.

low, dark clouds hanging around all day = fake sick play hooky from work

frontal clouds = fake a meeting on your calendar and leave work for couple hours before and during front passing
