I have a ton of #130lb flourocarbon that I was going to make my own leaders with but I gave up on it. I want to use it up but I need some advice on what to do. I was using the Lee Tauchen (or whatever) knot that Hemi posted on this forum but its a pain in the ass and I'm not the biggest fan. What's the next best way to go with low risk of failure?

Don't give up! The "Tauchen" knot (a reverse nail knot) is "easy" even with 130# fluoro if you get a Magnum Tie-Fast tool:

Make sure you get the Magnum one! They go for about $11 and it comes with instructions. I just made about half a dozen leaders with this tool using 130# fluoro, and if I can do it, YOU can do it.

I started leaving the tag a little long and using a double barrel sleeve and crimping also. Have t be careful to not smash the stuff while crimping, but I found them to hold together much better. I have also found that when tying the knot by hand if I let it spread out it makes a three looped figure 8, then I slide it down slowly and make sure everything stacks up right. I have had better consistency like this… I'm sure it's not right but it works and has held up well.

Yes, that's what you should let it do so it doesn't pinch. If you tie the knot incorrectly 150# breaks with only about 15 pounds of pressure. Scares the crap out of me every time it happens, right as I get the knot nice and tight and it goes BANG. Lesson here… always tighten completely and put the leader under load before using.

I tie Palomar Knots for all of my flouro leaders. I figured out by accident that it makes a difference if you cinch the tag end or the main line first……tighten the tag end first…and use a lot of spit. I also hold the loop (that you pass through) tight up against the main line as I am tightening. I have never had a knot fail.
