I posted this in the reports section under the West Lake report but thought it worth saying again here…
Let me remind everyone that this is a private area of the forum and NOT public.
That said I was more than disappointed when the fisheries chief called me about another topic tonight and once we got done with the business at hand he asked if I had seen or heard about the fish caught in West Lake.
MMA fishing reports are private and in the members area for a reason. Please do not share anything posted in the report area with anyone that doesn't have access to the members area. Failure to respect this will be cause to ban users from the members area.

Thats not cool. As I said in my other post I was debating even sharing this. I've seen the firestorm that posting pictures of a big fish can bring. I figured most of you guys within the club have helped me out (whether you know it or not) and I know all you guys are as passionate about these fish and CPR as I am. What really bothers me is people in the general fishing public knowing about this, especially the spearers. The last thing we all need is even MORE shantees out on these lakes.
Unfortunate if Johnny Public tries to hammer West. Open water season will not see much increase in pressure (well maybe from the club guys with small boats), but next spearing season could be tough. Hopefully by then people will have forgotten. No public launch will help until ice forms.
Don't beat yourself up for sharing, I probably would have done the same, though I may have called it the Austin lake system, LOL.

I would say this "hopefully" will be a "most likely" by the time you can get on the hard water. I have noticed most fisherman have really short memories, and hear a great idea, but if it takes more than 2 days to put it into action they forget! maybe thats different for most of us, because its a requirement to be remotely successful. I had the same thought when the whole spearing thread was going on on MS.com. I was trying not to get anyone riled up because it might make them actually remember that they have a say! but it ended quickly, and I am sure most have forgotten.
Also thanks for sharing the original post Smada, it was awesome to see, and I hope this doesn't discourage future posts…
Ryan, have you thought about putting the fish into the Muskies Inc database? I'm positive you would take the Lunker of the Month on that one. Just can't remember if you are able to do "Not specified" on the lake. Although, I don't think anyone here would complain if you told a little white lie on that! [smilie=biggrin.gif]

I hadn't thought about that until last night when I realized that last years Lunker of the Month for March was 48". I'm not sure if I will or not, would be pretty cool though. Do you get anything like a certificate or patch or something?
That is disappointing to hear the news spread like that. Sharing of members-only info I agree is a way to appreciate each other for all the help we get from our fellow MMA faithful, but this news is enough to make anyone reconsider how much info to share, especially on really big fish.
Our fisheries are mostly too small and fragile for the news to get out to the muskie slaughterers. It's an individual's call, but maybe we'll have to share great news without naming the lake from now on even in the members only area. Many of us will still have a good idea depending on if we know the person and other factors, but at least the leaks won't have the lake identified with certainty. Which reminds me, didn't we all once agree at a banquet that all big Austin or West Lake fish were actually caught on Lower Crooked? [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

Will, do we know who told the Dnr employee??? if so let us know who it was…..
If I enter the fish I will say West Lake. I really don't think there will be flocks of people running to the lake if they do any research on it and realize how few fish are left in that system. In all reality it was mostly a fluke and complete luck to get either of those two fish there.
I really don't need or expect an apology, but I do really appreciate the effort Will. This person isn't really screwing ME over as much as they are screwing the whole club over.
