I understand that each lake you fish will probably have a different favorite bait to troll. This year, I'd like to start trolling more. As far as I can recollect, the baits that I've had success on are: 9" Grandma, Super Shad Rap, 10" Jake, Rattle Trap, Shallow Invader. Of course, each lure that I choose is depending on where I'm finding the fish. For example, I use the Grandma trolled about 8-9' down when I know the fish are down 10', and not interested in coming any shallower.
So what are YOUR favorites, and what situations do you use them in?
I love all my buddies hand made lures, and my biggest fish came
trolling a LOKE, but,……. my number one trolling lure is my lucky
8" holoform perch Jake.
PS-"situation",… ANY ! Short line for shallower water, about 40-50'
for deeper water. Never caught a fish(that I remember) trolling
the Jake faster than 3.8 mph.
For Shallow 6' or less – Shad Raps, Jointed Wiley muskie killer, Jointed slashers, Baby Gotcha's, Muskie Magnets, Hoginators, Loke straights. For deeper than 6' in both jointed & straight, Buchher DR's, legend Perch Baits, Believers. For fall Nils Master Invincible, 10" Jakes, 9" G-mas, Ziggie baits, Muskie Magnet 10" straights.
Those will get you started if you have a mix of naturals and brighter colors.
