This post is a knock off of an article in MH a long time ago that asked seasoned anglers and guides what their favorite lure was. So now my brother and I were wondering what people's favorite lure is. My brother's is currently a DDD. Mine is without a doubt a magdawg but my second is a weagle/satisfier. I have fished a satisfier for only half of this year, but have already caught some nice fish on it and have had 20+ other blow-ups. This year I got a 42, 39, 40, 36, 34, 30, 33, 35, 35, 42 and 31 all on bulldawgs and have a 44, 39, 45 on a satisfier. I think this would be a good post to get us through the winter months, so if people could answer it with a story and picture of the lure that would be great.
Here are some pictures of his favorite DDD and my favorite satisfier. I would have taken pictures of my bulldawgs but its kind of hard to see the wear and tear on them.

Guys,

I caught a dozen fish up to 43 inches on the pictured DDD this past summer.

As you can see there is a lot of hook wear on the bait as well as a lot of teeth marks. Both eyes have been ripped off by fish and I've had to change the hooks three times. I've now gone to heavier hooks on it to keep from changing hooks with every decent fish caught.

My favorite part of the bait is its ability to provoke strikes at boatside. I had five fish last year come up and maul the bait on the final pull before going into a boatside maneuver.

We loved that article in Musky Hunter magazine so we thought this would be an exciting thing to do, if guys were willing to share pics and stories of their favorite or most beat up lures.

Cool post- I loved the MHM article, glad you posted this I'd really like to see more! Here's a couple of the best producers that are still in good enough shape to use:

This Qburt goes way back- has been repainted twice with magic gold automotive paint, needed JB weld body filler in several places, and has been punctured twice by musky incisors. All the work needed killed its walkin action, so I put a mag tail on it and turned it into more of a straight pull bait and still just throws fish in the boat for me (including my first 50").

Next is more of a newcomer that hasn't done anything huge (one narrow excape from jaws of death) but has been brutalized and inhaled by many fish. This bait might be my favorite to use

Last one, nothin fancy about it just a warrior that has got its tail chewed somethin fierce. First thing I do now when I get a new prism grandma is envirotex- this one didn't get it until later.

I didn't see the MHM article but it sounds cool. I'll share a couple, there are others that have looked worse than these that have been repainted and look nearly new.

Here’s one that has accounted for a bunch of fish in the last ten years. It’s got just the right action and gets a little “soak time” before it gets its first cast. I’m not sure how many fish have chewed it but there have been a couple memorable ones including a hefty 52 and one that got off that was… well… something in the mid-40# range – Iceman got to witness that one… heartbreaker [smilie=brickwall.gif] The front cotter pin is getting loose so it needs some work before it gets back in the water.

This is a semi-retired original Striker Jr that still has a number of teeth embedded in the maple. At the first MMA outing on Thornapple it became legend and was later auctioned off at our lure swap that year for $75. Luckily my Dad won it and it somehow made its way back into my possession… 🙄

I think I can dig up that MHM article from a couple years back. Some of the guides/lures were lame, but the most impressive statistic was Saric's Night Shiner jtd Depth Raider. He claimed over 200 muskies caught on that lure alone but it didn't look in that bad of shape… considering where/how he fishes often, I bought the same lure for the same purpose, but my night fishing exploits with it were unsuccessful.

Here is my favorite, it made its debut in October of 05. Looking back at the lungelog, it has put 33 fish from 31" to 45" in the net. Also several under 30". On LSC, in September it was eaten by the biggest fish I've ever seen, unfortunately it never saw the net. Still havin nightmares about that one. [smilie=brickwall.gif]

These are by far my most productive 4 lures with over 200 fish between them. The old Lokes are from 1996 and the Little Claws are the 1st and 5th ones I built. All of my Little claws were patterned after these two.

The Tuff shad had about 5 days on St. Clair in 2005 when it was the only thing going. Probably 12 fish on that one. The Blue mordas has about 9 fish on it including around a 7 fish day on St. Clair. The Slasher has two 49 inchers to its credit and a few others. Michelle got mad at me because I traded away our best Slashers from 2006 at the swap. They were full of holes. The last one is my old Tan Perch Little Claw. It has been coated three times total and still keeps getting pounded. 63 fish and counting. I dazzled a couple of guys with in the Pool at the Chicago show. Mike and Michelle

I just love seeing all these well-used lures, considering about 70% of my dozen or so haven't even gotten wet, yet! I look forward to getting much use out of them…

Here are a couple. I've only been fishing muskies for a few years so they aren't as battle tested as some of the others you guys have.

The small white Blue Fox Super Vibrax Bucktail has put in a good number of fish in the net. When starting off I would just throw it all day long, and good things were happening. It doesn't look to bad in the picture but much of the hair is gone.

The Weagle pictured received quite a bit of abuse from me this year. It put my personal best in the net as well as many more, and was a great tool in achieving some great memories on the water this past season!!!

It isn't anything special, just another well chewed Suick. The secret is in the tuning and not the specific lure, notice that part of the lure is cut off in the photo… that wasn't by mistake.

I must admit that in the past I've been all too willing to take Suicks from the shelf in a store, attach them to my line, and start fishing with them. Now I wonder whether those who personally tune Suicks would be willing to say a word or two about the kind or kinds of action that they're looking for when they start sawing or filing or sanding. Thanks.

You're a real barsteward!

I can envision either:

1. A longer tail than they come with

2. A flange on the end from a sharp bend (downward?) you've made

3. A combination of these two

4. Some leftover paint-scrapings on it from using it on your walls… 😀

This Believer is an all -time favorite. One instance where color doesn't matter all that much, fish eat it anywhere, day or night. The others are winners too.
