Hi guys,

Was looking at doing a 3-4 day trip in October and was looking for some thoughts on where to go. I have listed some basic ideas about what I am trying to do and any input or thoughts would be appreciated:

-Looking for a spot that is no more than an 8 hour drive from Detroit.
-Would rather fish a "numbers" lake instead of targeting only large fish.
-Need to be able to fish it in a 16.5' deep v with a 50hp motor.
-The fewer the people the better.
-Would want to hire a guide the first day to up my odds.

Thanks

WEST END UP.CHICAGON/SMOKEY/PAINT ETC..=8 HRS.CHEAP LODGING
NE WISCONSIN.LAC VIEW/THE TWINS/SAND ETC..-9 HRS.
HAYWARD WISC.GRINSTONE/CHIPPEWA,LAC COURTE ,PLUS YOU CAN TROLL ON A FEW CISCO LAKES=8-9 HRS..

I WOULD PICK HAYWARD..BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY,CAN TROLL..A LOT OF OPTIONS..MAYBE A LITTLE MORE PRICEY FOR LODGING THAN NE WISCONSIN GUIDES ETC..

CAN REFER YOU TO CHEAP RESORTS AND GUIDES..

SOUNDS FUN!! [smilie=attention.gif]

Hey that place looks pretty nice. Not a bad price even in the middle of the summer.

Ed,

The western UP has lots to offer as well as NE Wisconsin, Vilas county. More good musky lakes than you could ever fish. These are both 9-10 hours or so.

Cave run in Kentucky is a 6 hour trip and is beautiful in the fall. Prime time fishing in late September and October. I've spent 150 hours or so on it in case you need some direction.

I second the Kawarthas, I haven't fished it personally, but I had a friend that I used to fish with that had incredible luck there every year for about 3 years straight. Unfortunately, it ruined him, because muskie fishing in Michigan became "too difficult" compared to his experience at the Kawarthas, and he just didn't want to do it anymore. They caught numbers and nice fish as well.

Steve,

Still working on it and I head to Eagle Lake to Andy Myers Lodge in 10 days for a week so this is not the time to negotiate with my wife. Here are the options so far but still thinking:

1) Kawarthas
2) Indiana lakes
3) LSC

I will let you know what I setup and if anyone has any other ideas please post them up.

Melton Hill in TN, 8-9 hours away, but even better later, namely in winter.
