What's the story for Eagle Lake? How big should the GLM be, and is there some older, northern strains in catchable numbers? Would it be worth an afternoon trip?
Thanks!

Hit it for the opener last year… contacted 1 from the small first class of fish that was mid 30's… the second class of fish will still be pretty small.
It was a cool lake, and nice to start learning. Though, I am waiting a few years before I return.

I believe it's this one in Kalamazoo county – <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

. It was stocked with 150 fish in 2010 and 405 fish in 2013.

It's in the Fort Custer Recreation Area just west of Battle Creek, small but scenic and quiet lake, no gas motors. Saw a few on a visit last year but none ate. I'm hoping it develops into something like Osterhout, not a big fish lake but a really nice place to fish and get contact.

Joe, I think gas motors are ok as long as there is no wake.

Scott is correct. Motors are fine just no wake.

So it is the 73 acre one that was stocked? And I am assuming you use the state park pass to enter and launch?

Correct. Though I thought it fished bigger than 73 acres. Recreational passport to enter and use boat launch.

It is not the 73 acre lake. We called Fort Custer rec area. Its just over 200 acres. Shelly and I are going visit it this fall to map it and plan on several excursions there a few years from now. This is our kind of lake. No wake, quiet, and camping. I like all of those things. The only down side is the launch area closes at 10 pm PERIOD. You must be out by 10 or get a citation. We are going to go there this fall so we can fish after dark. Right now it is just prime low light at 9 to 9:30 . Have to pull and run fast and with no wake cant do that either. Need to be on the trailer by 9:45 . Looks to me like a great place for a camp out in Early October or late September. Mike and Michelle

Most of the maps of this lake are incorrect. Old maps don't show it's new size. The dam was raised, and flooded a much greater area, causing huge increase in lake size… according to what I have heard. Thus, why 73 acres is listed on most sites for this lake.

The built in map on most GPS units is incorrect for this one.

I think the size increase may have happened between the stockings… thus why the second year class of fish is some much larger.

There are two lakes listed as Eagle lake on the web. That was the confusing part for us. Trying to match up latitude and longitude . Was not making sense. Then Joe mentioned it was in the Fort Custer area. I talked with a gal there yesterday who told me all the rules and such for the area. The lake is closed to all access by 10 pm when the gate is locked. She said it is possible to get in earlier than 8 am if you ask one of the rangers ahead of time they would open the gate at say 6 am. They have camping sites in the area but not on the lake. The camping is back by the gate to the launch. Anyhow , Michelle and I are going to go there this fall and map it out for future visits. sounds like a nice quiet place to fish and not be bothered by personal watercraft.

It was fairly clear when I fished it. 5-8' visibility. Largemouth, muskies, and carp were the species I witnessed.

Looks like there's a creek feeder arm from the North K-Zoo branch. This is kind of a Will question. I take it there is no KTD sign there. And before the idiots start taking muskie and think there pike, a sign should go up. I have 2 left. Would you know who I have to get a hold of to get one up? Thanks
