So yet again(and this happens every other year it
seems like) I hear how a big muskie got caught out
at Dumont lake recently.
Anyone want to attack this lake someday with me?
maybe a pike derby?? I do write this off as probably
BS but man how many times can the same type of story
pop up from completly different people.

people that don't know the difference between a pike or a musky? i recently had a friend put up some pics from fishing lsc, one was where he caught his first small musky, and the other was his dad who was holding a small pike. Funny thing is he thought the pike was a musky too. Just some people really have no idea, ive seen a lot of pics from big pike caught from dumont but never seen any valid pics of muskies out of there yet.

I would love to see muskies back in there. I've only fished there a couple times for bass and pike, but man! Those reed beds look like a sweet place to house some skis!

Northern muskellunge were stocked in 1965 and 1970; they were replaced with tiger muskellunge in 1971-1991 stocked at a rate of 4 to 13 fall fingerlings per acre. A spearing ban and a size limit increase to 30 inches for both northern pike and muskellunge went into effect in 1968 to protect the muskellunge fishery from overexploitation. The spearing ban is still in effect. Dumont Lake was used for northern muskellunge and northern pike broodstock collections between 1969 and 1975.

I think I said this before, but we fished it a couple of times at the very end of the tiger era (like in 2000)… I had a small fish take a swing at boatside that that I could have sworn was a pure muskie. Can't say for sure because I didn't get a good look, but at that time I didn't even know the lake ever had northern muskies stocked in it and I still thought it looked like a musky… Natural reproduction is not out of the question in that nice little lake, give it a shot how cool would that be!

I know some people that live on that lake. They had caught muskies up to 48", but have not caught any in many years. They have lost big fish that they haven't seen the past few years, but who knows??? They seem to think there are a few around. My brother has fished it quite a bit the past few years with his only Esox action being from northerns.

Sorry… know that doesn't help one bit!!!
