To check your bearings before heading out this year! Especially if your first trip is over 2 hours away at Webster! Matt and I regrease the trailer bearings every year, but last year, skipped the inner ones because we couldn't find new seals to match up on the back of the hub. We just packed new grease in from the outside and felt that was sufficient. This year, we took our hubs in so we could have the proper seals matched up. When we took out the inner bearing, here's what we found:

Webster, here we come! (Safe and sound, now)
No. I think ( and I've heard from numerous mechanics) that bearing buddies are a bad idea. Especially if you launch your boat every time you go out vs keeping it in a slip. The seals on your spindles are not 100% waterproof. Close, but not 100%. When that little bit of water get inside there, the bearing buddies push that water deep into the hub. That, and the bearing buddies only really keep enough grease in the outer bearings. That is the problem that we had with these bearings. We still took the whole hub apart, and pushed grease down to the back of the hub. And that still wasn't enough to keep the bearings going. Greasing the outside of the bearings, and pushing the grease deep inside them are two totally different techniques. One will fail.
Thanks for the info on the bearing buddies. They are on my trailer, but I have always wondered if I should do more than just jam new grease in there.
Good Luck this weekend and don't forget your bass spinner so you can win one more time.
PS Don't leave you box unlocked. I know you have voodoo tails.

Yeah; these came standard on my Tracker trailer (August 2007); you put grease through the Zerk fitting (seen here on the left), and it goes straight to the back of the hub, then through both bearings, and pushes the old grease out the front. Keep pumping grease in until you see new grease coming out the front. Simple and effective. Takes ~ 10 mins per wheel, if that.
Also, Don't use automotive wheel bearing grease; use stuff which states it's for marine applications, and will be more water-resistant:

It's amazing how quickly the grease gets cruddy looking, too…

It's already in the box.

My good ones are hidden. [smilie=brows.gif] You can take the crappy, beat up ones that I stole from Will last time I was in his boat. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

I have this set also and I like them a lot better than BBuddies. Actually I have had these on my G3 trailer and now my Lund trailer. If you put a lot of miles on the trailers like I use to now this axle is worth it to upgrade. Most trailer places could get the axle for you in a few days.
