Been slow rolling pike with spinnerbaits lately and noticed that the Northerns hammer Willow-leafs, and won't touch anything with big colorado blades. Muskies don't seem to care either way.

Anyone notice the same thing? Why is that?

My opinion is that it can be a day to day thing depending on the conditions.

When Pike fishing, I've always just picked the willow, just because they ran a little deeper. Maybe it's also the faster vibration that feels more like a fleeing baitfish vs just the thumping of a Colorado?

I haven't really noticed a difference. I catch a lot of pike on double ten bucktails while fishing for muskies and have had certain times where muskies only want willowleaf bucktails.

ive caught some bigger Pike on colorado bladed bucktails as well..

I have a couple colorado blade spinner baits, that almost every other cast i could hammer a pike thumping it through the weeds in canada this past year.

Like jason said, i don't feel it really matters with Pike to be honest.. It could depend lake to lake possibly.. depending on the forage, but for the most part it could just be the particular spinner bait you are using as well. As pike will hit just about anything that touches the water

Weird. On the lake I'm fishing I can throw on a Northland spinner with Willow blades and nail a Northern every 5-10 casts. I switch over to a BootyCall and I can't get a strike. I'll keep experimenting, I can't figure it out.

i have a rabid squirrel spinner bait with colorado blades, and you thump that through the weeds and pike will crush it a lot, but i feel with that it is more of the look and vibration from the thick marabou skirt than the actual blades.
