Curly Sue - WARNING

I just saw Casedy's post that he bought a Curly Sue at the Chicago Muskie Show. The warning is for the new Folmula X baits made by Shack Attack and Dunwright.

I learned my lesson long ago with Dragon Lizards, DO NOT store these lures with other plastics! They will melt other plastics and you'll end up with a BIG mess and a bunch of ruined baits.

Will:
I picked up a Suzi Sucker at the show but have no clue what it is made of. Will that cause a melting problem too?

If it is made from the Formula X it will melt normal rubber baits. I believe everything but the largest size Suzy and Curley at the show were Formula X. If you're not sure I would keep it away from the others.

Hey Big Will,
You think some of the slightly melted plastics can give off a negitive
scent?

I'm a firm beliver that muskies don't care at all about scent. I've caught fish on freshly painted lures, lures that were just super glued or epoxied and lures that were just melted back together. Unlike salmonids, muskies have no need for scent.

Thanks for the heads up Will!! I was planning to put it in with some of my Bulldawgs, that would have been bad news. I'll keep it on it's own, or at least with the Shad Clones when I get them. They are supposedly the new plastic as well.

Are you talking the shad bait from Trophy Technology? I heard it doesn't run as advertised when someone cast it in the pool… It's also not going to be made of formula x.

Good thing I don't have a dunwright. I looked on shack attack website, but didn't see anything about formula X.

No, Andy changed back to regular plastisol quickly after all the problems.

Was a curley sue ever made with the X? I have a curley sue that I just bought used, so I have no idea when it was made.

Small or large curly sue? The small was the large wasn't.

Phew! I'm pretty sure I have the biggest they make. It's about the same size as a MagDawg. It's definately NOT the 6", and it looks bigger than a 9" and regular bulldawg.

The feel of formula x is very different than regular soft plastic. It is VERY stretchy so you should be able to tell if its formula x or not. If it doesnt feel any different than your other baits than its not formula x.

I have some Shackattacks of both kinds of plastic and the Formula X did make a mess even with a slight touch to other plastics for a while. I think you can see the difference without risking baits, the X ones look kinda' chalky or cloudy and definitely have that crazy stretch, the regular plastic is more clear in its composition, not cloudy at all…but don't risk stretching them much to check!

If anybody wants to get rid of their 'faulty' formula x anything, I'd be glad to 'dispose' of them for you 😀 !!! Just include a nominal hazardous waste disposal fee, and send the bait in its entirety with pre-sharpened hooks directly to my lure box, please.
