I have a cabin on Craig Lake in the UP reserved for mid July and was wondering if anyone has any Muskie info on the lake apparently the catch and release of most species is increasing the quality of the fishery up there. Any info on the lake (its been 23 years since I have seen the lake) would be greatly appreciated. I have an extra spot in the cabin for a guide!

Although we did lots of musky chasing from a canoe in the early days, we never did hit Craig, regrettably. What I know of it though, you will certainly enjoy the lake and the whole experience. Its very much a mini Canadien shield lake, and you're right the C&R regs and limited access are very effective at creating maximum size muskies and pike!

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that those lakes also have a "no live bait" regulation as well. Good luck up there, I'll be up that way in a month.

Thanks, I will take pictures. We do the sylvania wilderness track on occasion and thought we would try Craig lake and surrounding this year. The whole muskie from a canoe thing may be interesting depending on if we can land outside of the canoe..

Very cool water. Muskie numbers aren't great but it is worth fishing. Did see a fish in the mid 40's last time I fished it. You also have a good shot at a tiger in this lake. I've never seen a big one though. There are a lot of smallmouth and some very nice pike.

How hard is the portage to Clair? I want to bring my 17 foot OT Tripper for gear, its not too heavy but I am not getting any younger. Fishing should be good there as well?

I have a friend who has camped there a couple times and the fishing has been good. He was mainly fishing walleye, bass, pike but has cought some muskies to about 46".

I have to fire up the maps on my GPS for contours and see if its wadeable at all, I thought kevin and I fished it a long time ago but that the bottom was soft where we were. Back then it was all Bass and pike type of fishing.
