I was trying to seek some advice on the Cooke Dam Pond Ramp and fishing potential. Last year I tried to launch from Loud Dam Pond but the ramp was sketchy at best and easily could have got my 620 Trailer stuck. Looks like Cooke Dam has a much better ramp to launch a Ranger 620. Is this accurate? How's the Muskie fishing in Cooke? Lots of fish stocked over the years….I'm usually pulling tubers and wakeboarders all week but with this Polat Vortex coming next week looks cold in N. Michigan. If anyone has experience at this ramp and worth fishing a day or two, even night then please let me know. I've never been to Cooke and have zero knowledge of fishing it…..thank you in advance!!!

Ramp at cook should be fine for you. That is the one that is right off 65 once you cross river. The only drawback is it is a one lane trail through the woods to get to the launch so your tight space trail wring in reverse skills may get tested. Haven't caught any muskies in that stretch or in loud either. Only hit em up once or twice a year though at most. Decent action for smallies and small pike. Used to do ok trolling spinners with minnows for eater Walleyes. Tons of water to cover…..wood, weeds, river channel. Good luck and let us know how it went. Go easy when out of the channel there are some giant stumpies out there.

As for loud….the launch is scarier then it looks. Haven't had any problems the last few years……would not recommend in a two wheel drive old Cherokee though….😁😁😁

JT,

Thanks a bunch!! Maybe I'll try Loud then if ramp is not that bad…my fear is its all sand/mud underneath water when you launch and tires will sink a bit. I've got a 5.3L V8 4WD truck so 4 low could do the trick if I'm stuck but it could really ruin a day! Maybe I'll try it!! Thanks a bunch!!! Heading up now and will be up there all week

No problem….launched my boat using 4wd f150….it's a 17 foot starweld aluminum though so not nearly as heavy….now I am
Nervous that you will get stuck and hunt me down 😝….way less water to figure out at loud though….also another lake in the area up there that is private, was privately stocked has a shady launch and was giving up some pigs within the last few years.. Charge u like 5 bucks to launch …pain in the butt but could be very worth it especially if you can hit it during a weekday..lemme know if you want more info….but again buyer beware……😉

I fished Loud & Cooke this weekend. I have a 16' Smokercraft & my brother has a 18' Nitro bass boat. We launched at both lakes & had no issues, however Loud doesn't have a dock so it can be tricky but doable. This was my first time on Loud & only fished muskies for a few hours. I didn't move any fish but did lose 2 lures. Lots of submerged wood so be prepared & bring a lure knocker if you have one. I mainly fished for bass with my brother & had a bass tourney on Cooke today. I did have a low 30's fish go in the 8 last year on a bucktail but didn't connect. Both lakes are clear water & have some great vegetation. Loud has more wood but got earlier stockings so worth checking out for sure.
