Since the Muskies, Inc. spring board meeting is this weekend and the national awards will be given I thought this would be a great time to congratulate the chapter 47 members gettting an award this year.
Congratulations to Mike King, Todd Frank, Michelle King and Tristan Spindler-Smith. Fred Becchetti will be picking up your award at the board meeting if you are not able to attend, if you are attending you'll see Fred in Ohio.

MMA has replaced the MOFC with Match fishing for 2007 but all Muskies, Inc. members are still eligible for national awards.

Masters is a tough division. There was only one guy in mens that measured up to those guys and he beat me by along shot. Hulbert , Will , Jeff Hanson, Hammernick , wow , there were tremendous numbers caught last year by those dudes. The only reason Will Schultz has not won the Masters is because of where he lives. I can tell you all this, To catch the fish Michelle and I Caught last year we traveled over 12,000 miles. That expense is huge. In another 5 years we will have 20 percent of the fishery Wisconsin and Minnesota have. Those guys have better waters and much much more of them. We have all made a statement to the Musky world though. We got some great sticks over here. If we ever get the fish to go with that maybe we reach the top more often. For now we fight the new disease and pray we keep what we have started. thanks for the kind words , Mike and Michelle

I've been in the top ten for five years and have realized that it isn't as much where I live, as how I live. Hanson, Hulbert and MuskieBreath are on the water 150-200 days a year, I get out about 70 days each year.

No big deal, it is what it is… just go out there and have fun.

Ok Will. How do hide your gills? You have an uncanny ability to know what the fish are up to, to achive a time on the water to fish ratio like that! 🙂

Buck said, "Knowledge is the key to fishing success."

With enough knowledge you can always put yourself in the right place at the right time. That's all I try to do, be on fish every day. Bad luck can keep fish out of the net for sure but can't keep you off fish. If you're never on fish that isn't bad luck, that's bad fisherman. Keeping up with seasonal changes on lakes as well as chasing the best times to be on the certain water makes the game easier.

So you see, it's not really ability. I'm willing to sacrifice fishing time to learn the water, I don't expect to go out there and tear it up on the first day. It has taken five years and hundreds of hours to learn just a small portion of the casting water on the St Clair system. We're finally to the point where it is just starting to pay off.

Still in all Will if you lived in Minnesota right in between Mil lacs and Vermillion close to the big list in western Ontario I see you putting 300 fish up in 70 days. We barely have a shadow of the fishing those guys have. It is true though those guys are on the water every day. Like Michelle and I you have to drive all the way to St. Clair to have a taste of great water. Now if I lived one mile from St. Clair Michelle and I would catch 300 Muskies in one year. The cost keeps us home and keeps us from those kind of years. That is why this year we are sitting it out. Fishing local and saving some money. Musky fisherman who live in northern Minnesota have the all the advantages and if they are good fishermen on top of that its almost impossible beat them. Location has everything to do with numbers and or huge fish. In 2005 the Hardys proved that three people could catch over 1000 muskies in one year. If they lived in Michigan they could not of done that unless they had an entire 6 months long vacation. Will you have done great things here in Michigan. When our lakes here mature you will crush the others and just be having fun ha ha ha . Hopefully this new lure helps to put some more fish in your boat. Michelle and I will be here to help put Michigan on the map as a Musky state. We got a long way to go and Ill be an old man when the harvest comes. 50 inch fish less then an hour from my house. I cant wait for Hamlin , Mike and Michelle
