I don't understand what's going on with this club! I've been to one meeting , that will be my first and last, I have my reasons. So if ten people show up to this meeting, they decide the fate of the club out of over a hundred members! Every election I've ever seen has absentee ballots. Send every member a e-mail absentee ballot, it can't be that hard!
Steve
The by-laws of a Muskies, Inc. chapter state that 5% of the membership constitutes a quorum. Which means that currently that takes 9 members. Elections are different and EVERY member gets a ballot. The reason you have never seen a ballot is that MMA has never had more than one person running for executive committee positions.
The issue at hand is that MMA members give Muskies, Inc. roughly $6000 each year. Over the last five years MMA has seen exactly $1500 that we got as a grant for a tracking study. It's my opinion that the benefits each member gets from Muskies, Inc. is not worth their $35. Initially I pushed hard for the club we were forming to become a chapter of Muskies, Inc., at the time we needed that. Now, I'm not convinced.
I would be very interested to hear about what you like and dislike about MMA. If you don't want to post it here please feel free to e-mail me.
Steve, Will states the truth. No one has ever ran against any one else so elections were moot. It is simply that hard to find people to fill the positions. 6,000.00 is a lot of money to send to the national headquarters. I think Will has the same Idea I had 6 years ago when I said we need to keep the money in Michigan. Members can still keep thier muskies inc memberships and list in the unafiliated members area. If we can save 6 thousand dollars per year by breaking away as a club than it has my support. We can do much more for Michigan if we are indpendent. Mike and Michelle , added we will support either type of club or both.
