When I was here I looked for and found the fully stocked muskie angler survey box Cool it was affixed onto one of those nice heavy duty wooden brown painted DNR signs. The sign itself reads: Attention Anglers Muskellunge regulations.
1. Minimum size 42 inches
2. Hook and line only
3. Limit one (1) per day

Obviously the laws have been updated since this sign was made, and I understand making a new sign would be too expensive and impractical. II did notice though, that the "42" for minimum size was on a small piece of wood and screwed into the sign to cover up a different number. Would it be possible to contact the DNR about this and maybe get a similar "replacement" strip of wood saying YEAR and screw it over the word DAY? Hell, I'd be more than happy to make one and mail it to them. [/img]

I'm sure it can be fixed and that seems like something the boundary waters group should handle.

I still might email the Iron County DNR. I can see that being a simple oversight…The sign has been there for years. If I fished there often, I wouldn't look at it every time I drive by it either.

FYI, the Chicaugon $10 a day fee may rear its ugly head again. The state rep. for that area, Tom Casperson, has introduced a bill allowing townships to charge use fees to combat invasive species. If you recall, the county shut down the fee. This would allow the township to tack it on again. It could affect a lot more than just Iron County.

I hadn't heard of that. Last year was my first trip to Chicagon. This year & last year I did see places on the lake that they had quarantined off with signs saying there was invasive milfoil. Both years it was right off of the launch, but in different spots by the launch. I didn't hit the entire lake either year so I suppose there could have been more quarantined areas.

This year they had a boat spraying chemicals on the area. They must have sprayed that little 20'x20' area for 4 hours though…unless they took an hour long lunch break and 2 15 minute smoke breaks…which could have been the case as they were either government employees or at least subcontracted through the state, but I digress. My point is that they seem to take this pretty seriously, so I can see how they would look for revenue streams to fund it.
