[quote="robhj"]We stopped by and spoke with Steve Herbeck to discuss a trip to AML. He's a trip to talk to and drops more F-bombs than anyone I know, including myself.
Just wait until you're up at the main lodge at night and he has had a few shots of crown lol.
This is very true and just be in the boat when he misses a big fish. You may want to avoid saying things like, "So, Herbie when you say I'm supposed to take the bait away from the fish is that what you meant"? Overall, he is a good guy and his guides (especially Cal) are fantastic and they will put you on some huge fish. Every year I say I am not going to go back because of the drive but I always go.
Bought:
-Bulldozer blades for dawgs, helidawgs and other baits from Musky Innovations.
-Prodawgs, magdawg and some custom shallow invaders.
-Spanky baits, new Viper 2 from Steve Herbert, martian bladed Spankys and Shumways.
-Last of the 10' Musky Innovation rods in a lighter weight.
-Some of the new Stealth weighted leaders and quickstrike rigs.
-One of Hulberts new Shadillac baits.
-New chrome Hellhounds and some custom Hellhounds.
I won these at the lure swap:
-Black Weagle
-Custom Krusher
-(2) just beautiful Moski baits
I will type up my notes from the seminars and try to get them posted ASAP. It was a fun show and it was great to have so many guys from MMA at the show, the lure swap and MMA cleaned up at the swap. Time to go fishing!

The guy at Grand River Bait and Tackle in Lansing can't do it.Does anyone know anybody that we can get?
Al and Bob's uses a guy named D!ck Benham. They sub out all their work to him. I talked to him, and he gave me a maybe. He will let me know in the next couple days. He's a little north of Pierson, so sounds like he's got a little bit of a hike.

Did you tell him we'll pay him for his time?

Can he do it at some other time for us??
No, the time wasn't the issue. I didn't ask, but it sounded like he couldn't, not that he didn't want to. I have heard a rumor that his wife was ill, and has been for a while.

Wayne Werner is the owner of Grand River Bait and Tackle and I know him very well (one of my first clients back in the early 80's). His wife passed away last year and he is "slowing down" due to some health issues of his own. He doesn't have the same energy level it appears that he once did and maybe he likes to rest after he closes the shop. That being said, I will talk with him and find out the real story as to whether he is able or willing to speak on reel repair. I doubt seriously his shop ever works on the type of reels we use for muskie fishing. Although he has a few muskie lures on the wall this is not a muskie shop or anything remotely close to that. It's more or less a hobby for him at this point. I'll let you know whether he or his guy on duty will be able to provide any useful help on this subject.
