Crappy pic (I was alone — camera on timer/auto), but this girl was 45.5" from Ovid this morning, on a Musky Innovations Twin Fin.

The bad news? I don't think she liked me tagging her; when I took her out for a pic, she squirmed HARD and clamped down on my thumb! Just out of view is my bleeding thumb. I just got back from getting 10 stitches…
(I have pics of that, too, if you wanna see… 😀 )
Thanks, everyone!
Charlie,
So far, IIRC, I've caught fewer than ten fish of any size, and only ONE keeper… I don't even come close to the records of many others around here! I'm doing better than I'd hoped, but I don't think it's much to be envious of. And right now with stitches throbbing in my thumb, I don't feel like much of a good role model. 😀 Maybe you're getting a misperception because I brag about every catch since it's new to me and very exciting, while most others don't post pics and brag about every catch.
And as for the "Will Jr." thing, well, it's pretty much an insult to Will, don't you think? 🙄 [smilie=biggrin.gif]

Hemi, any day now you should receive the Musky Purple Heart! [smilie=2thumbsup.gif] Steve
I think a Most Stupid Award would be more appropriate. 🙄

Thanks, Michelle. I could have used some of your medical attention out there! It's no fun trailering a boat with a bleeding thumb… [smilie=frown.gif] [smilie=sign-doh.gif]
I know Steve has a pair of these and I have some and they are good gloves and may be a sound investment for you.

I also found some really long pliers from Tractor Supply that help me with a release. I just got back from a fly in trip with my wife and we caught some decent pike and the long pliers were nice so that you could just release the fish in the water. Something like this:

BTW landing that size fish, getting a picture, tagging the fish and safely releasing the fish is a quite an accomplishment especially considering you were alone.
Thanks, Ed.
I have a pair of thick rawhide gloves that probably would have protected me at least somewhat, if not completely, that I failed to use in my excitement. I have all the other release tools (straight and 45° angled 11" needlenose, 10" jaw spreader, Knipex bolt cutters).
Actually though, the fish had already spit the lure out in the net. I got bit when I lifted her out of the net for her photo-shoot, after tagging her. As I lifted her by the gill plate she thrashed hard and somehow my thumb ended up in her jaws. I'm convinced she was TRYING to bite me. 😡 Her thrashing caused a 1.25" gash on one side of my thumb, and a deep puncture and a 1/2" gash on the other side. I never let her go though (…she never let me go?). 😀
I may get some better gloves, but $20 for ONE GLOVE? 😯 Krikey!
