I'll be up that way at the end of the month and I may get a chance to do some fishing so I am in dire need of ANY tips I can get for this area. I know the fishing will be tough but some ideas on where to start would really be great.

The Cheboygan is a little tougher than the Black with generally deeper water, less weeds, and more boat traffic. If you can go up the Black from the confulence you will have little better experience. And the fishing will be pretty decent too with good numbers of pike, and the occasional musky.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'll be up at Mullet/Burt lakes including both Cheyboygan and Indian River next week. I'd love to find some muskie but have been told these are really tough waters. I'll probably pull the boat out of Mullet one day and drop it in over at Black Lake since the muskie population seems much better. Any other adivce anyone has on Cheyboygan/Indian River including Mullet/Burt lakes would be great.

Esox, i just got home from up there. The Cheboygan is very clear upstream from the Black. I would concentrate on the Black. The bays upstream have very good cabbage in them, and a lot of big pike, muskie and walleye like to hang out there.
To say the Cheboygan has a lot of boat traffic is putting it mildly. All of the Cheboygan however is no wake. Just upstream from the where the mouth of the Black dumps into the Cheboygan is an area called stump junction. Pull up your big motor and put your trolling motor to work.
In the evenings you can find a lot of pike and muskie in those logs.(even though I failed last week!)
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. We'll see how much free time I get in the short time we'll be there. Catching a GLS fish up there would be pretty cool.
