When it was decided to drop the MOFC (Members Only Fish Contest) and replace that with Match Fishing someone mentioned that it would be good to report the numbers of fish registered by Chapter 47 members to the Muskies, Inc. Lunge Log once in a while.
Here are the fish that have been reported so far for 2007:

I say bring back the MOFC in addition to match fishing but that's just me.
Did you just volunteer to run it?
When we discussed this at a couple meetings last year we couldn't come up with a way to make the MOFC fair. The people who fish the most will dominate regardless of size restrictions or other rules put in place. In the simplest terms… to get an MOFC award you just need to fish more than the people you are competing against.
One thing I would like to talk about at an upcoming meeting is running something that would be a tournament series. That could combine night tournaments and Saturday tournaments.
I'm just spitballing here but what if…
– one tournament day (Saturday) scheduled in May, June, September, October, November
– three evening tournaments scheduled in June, July and September
– points from one evening event and three Saturday events count toward final points for each team (meaning; you can fish one or all evening events but only one counts and you could fish three or all five Saturday events but only your best three count)
– must fish at least two Saturday events
– must fish at least one evening event
– the angler team picks the lake they want to fish
– they must use an approved Dunright marked bump board that the fish will be photographed on
– there must be a secret item that appears in the photo
We could also give bonus points:
– you could get five points if you fish all events
– five bonus points for the winner of each event
Well, I'm betting that I fish quite a few more hours than most and that doesn't help my catch rate but that's just me again. I just miss the old MOFC even though not everyone was logging fish and some fished more than others, etc. Let's not forget that the match fishing deal isn't the fairest contest either, not everyone had access to numbers lakes or LSC in short driving distance. Having said that, life's not fair and, with the fear of stroking your ego Will, match fishing this year was never "fair" since you were in it…LOL. I like the tourney idea too but it was hard enough getting folks to match fish so not sure the interest will be there but I'd be game.

KID,
Last I checked… you had a match to get by before the next round. Don't be looking ahead… or you'll end up like UM against App St.

I've been able to hang in the top five since 2002 but with an 8-5 job and a family I don't pretend that I can truly be competitive. Mainly I'm competing with myself from year to year and not the others. This year I'm way behind the number of fish compared to the last few years. 2006 – 126 fish at this time, 2005 – 125 fish BUT the average size is way up which is a reflection of the quality fish we're growing in the inland lakes.
I'm not involved with the contest competition, but I'm daydreaming to the future.
Snippet from Will, "… BUT the average size is way up which is a reflection of the quality fish we're growing in the inland lakes." and, from 2006 banquet DNR Kreg Smith "….LSC bonus set aside, our muskie data shows Michigan can grow muskies as well or potentially better than the other states."
Can we imagine what this contest could look like a few years from now if our DNR had full funding for muskie culture expansion and all lakes (including drowned river mouths) received full stocking? Will's day job and family could both be facing real competition. However, by then Tyler could well be Will's biggest challenger. Have fun.
Definitly not looking past the Pigs. We might have to pull out our
secret "spread fishing offense".

One more thing I forgot about… with the supporting members we would have to keep a second spreadsheet for the supporting members. There wouldn't be an online entry they would have to use e-mail or go back to paper. This could create a significant amount of work for someone.
Basically, if we don't have someone to run it we can't do it. I would not expect that Fred could do this combined with his secretary duties, which are significant particularly managing the supporting/M-Inc members and getting 12 newsletters out each year.
