Hi guys,

I'm new to the members area, and the whole alliance, posted a lot on the general page, good to be a member now, but was curious on this topic.
I see that Budd lake gets a pretty good stocking number, and people spear out of the lake and its a catch keep and kill type of lake …and 175 acres.. I do enjoy fishing it and it is nice i think, but why does the DNR pump all those fish into that lake with such a limited forage base for them to get giant and reach a Max growing potential. I will always complain about Sanford, because with structure, size and waters ecosystem, the fish have a great trophy potential, I feel at least, and it could use those Budd stockings, Hell I might be wrong, but I am curious to see how others feel on this. I really do enjoy fishing budd, but it almost seems like a waste of good fish to pump them into a tiny lake, when the could flourish in Sanford. Even though Sanford is catch keep and kill for all the assheads too…Does Budd have a case to get all these fish?…can they get giant in there? Is there enough room for all them?….or ?..lol
Let me know.
Bryan

I believe it has become a tradition at bud for alot of the locals. Its been known for years as a "muskie" lake. And a few of them do get big, or long anyway. I know many people complain about sanford, but I really don't think you have to worry about that lake anymore. I have heard from many sources that it will continue to get better and better. AK

Budd is protected from spearing, so the fish are not going out that way. But you're right that the locals love muskies being planted in there, because they think they taste great! And it has long history of being a muskie lake going back in the Tiger days.

The DNR has different goals for different lakes. Some are "numbers" lakes by design- places where novices or new muskie anglers can go to have better chance at gaining an interest in the fish. Budd would fall in that category, but it does still manage to produce some very respectable muskies for Michigan. Hopefully they are keying on the pike in there which are NOT native to the lake (could possibly be a 'miracle of life' offspring from fertile Tigers, more likely some bucket biology going on).

As a new member check out the past members reports from Budd. You might get a few eye openers. Never whitnessed a fish killed there but I dont doubt that a few get waxed. As for the forage base I think its quite solid for this lake and low number of fingerlings that get stocked there. Lots of and I do mean lots of small perch and its the Muskies that keep these perch from overrunning this lake. I have fished it the winter and have seen no one fishing for Pike or Musky. Most of the Ice guys are targeting Gills and Crappies. There a several real nice Muskies in this Lake as My wife will tell you Laugh Laugh Laugh . Kingfisher Check out the october reports 2005.
