i might be going to bud lake this fall and i know vhs has been verified there. this will probably be the last (only) time i fish this year. after cleaning my boat, motor, and equipment i should be ok to go out other places in the spring right? it may sound stupid but i just want to be cautious.also if anyone could help me out like hot spots, lures, colors, casting, trolling that would be great because i have not been there before.reason why im going is my neighbor is towing my boat up there because i dont have a licencse and he has a place to stay and dont want to see me go fishless this season thanks
Hi Brandon, the VHS virus is a weakling as far as longevity. Clean your boat down with a light bleach solution and let it dry. Wet bunks are more of a threat or water in your live well. The disease will not survive once the infected stuff is allowed to dry out. The main threat is lake hopping in the same day or transferring of fish from one lake to another via bait wells or live wells. If planning on fishing another lake right after Budd I would be more carefull. Bleaching the wells, hull and trailorthen allowing a day or so to fully dry out. Kingfisher
Brandon, I have a cottage on the Budd lake chain. We got some doc's from loacal DNR stating "VHS is a cold water worry" Once the water gets past 65, we should be ok. Still a great thing to keep the boat clean all the same.
P.S. I will be up there the next 2 weekends, I'll let you know if we do any good!

.
Budd has very clear water, generally steep breaks, and some areas but not a ton of weed growth. You will find muskies without too much trouble, your fishing experience should be pretty good on Budd Lake!! Hope you get up there
