I also hate hearing how we can't discriminate against the "meat" fisherman who are just looking to catch/spear a meal. He's not doing this for the food. He's doing it for the thrill of killing something and getting recognition from his buddies and the news. It's all about ego.
Both are at the taxidermist… this had nothing to do with food.

Why don't we go spearing with this guy and use him as the Decoy!! 😯
See, as mad as I also get thinking about this, you can't even really blame the guy spearing the fish. He is doing what our state tells him is legal and ok to do. Our frustration and anger should be directed at the state of Michigan for being the ONLY place you can get away with this nonsense, and pretending like this is a vital part of our heritage. Its no wonder our state is in the sad shape it is in nowadays.
I have no problem with people fishing for food. Hell, I love eating a good salmon, trout, perch, walleye or pike dinner here and there. I dont even have a problem with people spearing pike if they are doing it for the food. But alot of these idiots spearing giant muskies are definitly not doing it for the food and obviously this guy is one of those people. Its all about killing the next biggest thing just for the sake of killing it and being able to put it on the wall and brag about it. They could care less about conservation and dont understand the negative effects of their actions and wouldnt care even if they did understand…selfish and ignorant
I think now is the time to bring up the mirror… placing blame on this person isn't the right thing to do.
If the media up there doesn't know about muskies, it's our fault.
Would this angler still have speared both fish if he had been made aware of the impact on the resource? Maybe… maybe not but if he's unaware that these were both prime age breeding females then it is our fault.

Is someone going to write to this newspaper or TV stations and explain the other side of this, or will that come back to bite us!!
Write anything you feel you need to say, just don't make it sound like you are speaking on behalf of MMA. Sorry… that wasn't supposed to be poetry.
I'm moving this to the members area.

Agreed! Changing the "Old fishing culture and mentality" through education. We, MMA, need to continue you to do a better job of bringing awareness throughout the state. It can happen. Look at the group "Sturgeon for tomorrow" and how they've come together to protect and educate about a fragile resource.
yea seeing this dude in everything from TV to newspapers and magazines about how this was a state record 40 lb+ fish lol give me a break
This is a 40 lb fish
