I hope this is ok here, if not please delete…..

A couple years ago I did a paperback book drive and donations allowed me to forward around 300 books to our troops in Iraq. Now I'm doing another, but this time the books go to Afganistan. Deadline to send to me is November 1 so the books can get there by Christmas. If you would like to participate, please send the paperback books or magazines to

Rick Fox
93892 Streeter Drive
Lawton, MI 49065

I sure would appreciate your help in this effort.

Thanks Rick! My son-in-law is starting his second tour in Iraq this month, from him I've learned this type of support means a lot to the kids putting their lives on the line for us.

I've received no contributions from anyone on this site. Upon reflection, I've not participated in any of the outings or otherwise helped much, so what should I expect in return?

In the future I'll be sure to meaningfully contribute/participate in #47 efforts before I ask members for a favor.

And that's fair.

Sorry, Rick. I don't even remember reading the first post. I'm sure it's not a "you didn't help us, we don't help you" sort of thing. I know it's not that for me. Maybe next time a coule of TTT or reminders?

Hey Ranger,
You meaningfully contributed to my joining MMA when I was coming in from an afternoon on Bankson four or five years ago and you were getting ready to launch. You were the first muskie freak I had talked to since I had moved down to Holland and it was a joy to communicate with someone else who shared an appreciation for the resource. At that time, I knew I had to be a part of the organization that you mentioned as we talked. Thanks!
But unfortunately I don't have any reading material to send at this time. Scott Williams and I went through a back issue of InFisherman a day for several weeks at work a couple of years ago and that would have been my only stuff to send.

I don't think it has anything to do with what you have or haven't contributed. I can't speak for anyone else but all our books from home go to where my wife works, the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Also keep in mind that a very small portion of MMA actually frequents this forum.

I forgot about this to. My wife is a avid reader, sci-fi, horror, mystery. Plus they trade books at work. I would think this is a on going thing?

Rick, sorry it didn't work out for you here this time. Sometimes people just need a couple reminders or their cage to be rattled a little bit, I'm sure it was nothing intentional to not donate. More like we all weren't intentional enough to get it done, sorry. I will save any cracks about MMAers (me) not doing much readin or ownin' of books… I would love to send my wife's store of romance novels, that's about all we got but I'm not sure if that would be more like a cruel joke on the troops.

I appreciate that folks didn't read me wrong. I think this is a great site with great people. I wish I would have been more involved with outings and such, and will make greater efforts in the future.

I'm done collecting, though, so don't send anything now. I have about 75 paperback books and about 25 pounds of magazines: fishing, hunting, guitar and Ladies Home Journals. Time to start packing them up!

Larry, thanks for the smile!

Again, I'm glad to know you guys and will be more active in the future.
