I upgraded from my old 14 footer to a Deep V 1994 Sea Nymph BT175. The boat is 17'4", with an 85" beam. Dry weight from the specs I could dig up is 958lbs. It has a 40 HP 2 Stroke Evinrude tiller.
I am looking to replace the trolling motor (which is the original Evinrude trolling motor that came with the boat), get new GPS/Sonar for the front and back, new batteries, and an on board charger.
What pound thrust would you recommend for the bow mount trolling motor? Also, anybody have any suggestions for a GPS/Sonar set-up you have for the front and back? And anybody have battery/charging set ups that you really stand behind?
I would really like to do this for less than 3000, but want to do it right.
Any input related to any of this stuff would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott

That boat doesn't have super high sides if I remember right so you would be ok w/ 70#.
With three batteries on board you'll want to install a 3 bank onboard charger. From what I've researched the manufacturer really doesn't matter. Pricing is usually based on amps per bank. I'm still sold on the wallmart batteries, good warranty and I'm getting more than two years from them.
Graphs are a lot of personal preference but you'll be able to get a really nice pair for $12-1500.
My Tracker deep-V is 16'8" with an 86" beam and fairly high sides, and the 42# trolling motor it came with is woefully inadequate when the wind is blowing. I think even the 55# ones would be underpowered, too. I'm dying to replace mine, but I don't have the scratch. 70# sounds about right, and that means 24V.
I have a Guest 2620A two-bank 10/10/20A charger that I really like. Does all types of batteries, and is smart enough not to cook them if you leave it plugged in over long periods. Fully potted and waterproof.

I third the 70 plus pound 24 volt system. Mine is 72 and it can even be a little weak at times. Get a bigger one and you dont have to run it hard. This will get you more from your batteries. Choose wisely on your electronics. I did not. It seems these days that Lowrance just keeps building crap. I have problems with three of my units right now. Im starting to think about going with another company. I am getting sick of blinking screens, shut offs, reboots etc etc. My older Lowrance stuff works great . The new stuff has me feeling a bit unhappy. Mike

Minnkota makes a nice I-Pilot GPS option which I am thinking of trying out for this year. My auto pilot is still working nice (knock on wood) and is helpful for night fishing and days with a breeze.
Yeah, I'd love one of those, too! Anyone got a spare kilobuck they can give me for a new 70# Powerdrive V2 with iPilot? 😀
