Sign up here for the outing. I will need an Idea of how many guys and gals we will have . Lots of lakes and room so dont be shy.
This outing will require you to carry in a canoe or small rowboat to fish from. Little Jon Boats and 12 to 14 light aluminum row boats work the best for this type of adventure. I would like to have enough guys on hand to carry in 12 and 14 foot Jons or row boats. 4 to 6 guys. There are boats available near the Area and I will post types and prices when I have them.
In the Big Island wilderness area you can not use a wheeled cart. Can not use a gas or electric motor. No devices that require an external battery. No glass containers. Walking and rowing are the extent of travel options. Campfires must be in the rings only and only at the designated sites. For safty and organization sake I would like the base camp to set up on the Island campsite and the parking lot area. There are federal campsites near and also a few cottages and I will get rates and reservation information asap.
I have fished here a couple of times and tell you it is one of most beautifull areas to fish in the state. Things to bring. Hand held G.P.S. if you have one. Compass if you dont. Bottled water for as many days as you will stay in the area. A good 5 day cooler(keeps ice for 5 days) or plan on driving out to the store a lot. A battery operated depth finder helps. We have a small bottomline that runs on AA batteries. Bring an anchor and a rope.
Down size your tackle box to one medium box each. I bring a small box of extra hooks and splitrings. I bring two rods and an extra reel. You can always keep a store of lures in your car to refit your tackle box if need be. Be prepared for any weather. I will post weather reports for three days prior to the outing . I will begin posting maps and other information as I get them. We have lots of time to plan this outing. Its a good time for suggestions. Please dont post on this thread unless you are planning on attending. This thread is for planning this outing. Mike and Michelle
I plan to attend at least part of the outing. Probably just myself. Not sure which days yet as my wife works alternate weekends. I don't plan on needing a campsite, I only live about 40 min. from the lakes, but I may stay overnight possibly one of the nights, depending on the festivities. Looking forward to meeting more of the members of MMA. It should also be great time to fish. Mike, since I live so close, I'd like to offer any assistance I can to help put it together and while the group is attending the outing.
Steve, Michelle and I would welcome any help you can give us. Also I think that Jason Vkop would be interested in sharing a boat with someone. As soon as I get past the Chicago show I will be putting this outing together. I plan on Friday and saturday night campfires on the Island where we will cook out and discuss the days fishing adventures. John Nutkins also has expressed his interest and will probably attend . Michelle and I will be camping in the parking lot in our Van but have a base camp set up on the Island. I assume several of the guys will camp on the island to protect the camp from invaders. Welcome aboard Steve, Mike and Michelle

If this event is going to happen it needs to be written up in the April newsletter with all important information included (especially the contact person).

Since this event should have been in the February or March newsletter. If we don't have something in the April newsletter this should probably be pulled from the event list.
I am thinking this is going to be a low turnout because of the date. With kevin out that only leaves a couple guys. I think what we are going to do is put this into the news letter and see if we can get enough people to show interest. I have gotten several emails saying that the date is bad for them due to School still being in session. My guess is we are going to have to plan this for 2009 and get it on the scedule as a club event in a spot where it does not collide with another outing. Michelle and I are still planning on going up there for a week so anyone wanting to join us is welcome. Ill be talking to Will about this over the next couple days. Mike and Michelle
