Ive never noticed this before but my battery has been bubbling lately
while charging.NOT BOILING,just kinda gassin a little, like the kid after
a good plate of briskit.Ive heard Im killing it,and charging it to long. But there is no foul egg odor that usually accompanies boiling a battery.
I have also read that this is normal(some scientific process going on)
leading up to the equalizing phaze. ?????????????????
I have a big,deep cycle trojon.Rarely gets to below 50% power.
I use a 2amp charge rate,usually overnight 10-12 hours,and the water
level is fine.Any tips??? Info?? Thanks, -kid
At that charge rate you won't overcharge the batt. Bubbling slightly is normal but no battery lasts forever. The life of a battery depends on how long it sits at a discharge and how many cycles of charging and discharging it has undergone. For instance, if you leave your battery with 20% charge for 3 months you have seriously lowered its life expectancy. Get one of the new smart chargers for around 50 bucks. They shut off automatically, have different charge rates, can test alternators and tell you if the battery is any good. Mine even has a "desulfation mode" where it actually rejuvenates the battery by desulfating the lead plates.
If you have a flooded type battery the water must cover the plates inside.
They say bring the water level to 1/8 inch below the fill wells.Batteries
very as far as water consumption, but it only takes a second to check them
so I do it pretty often.Use only distilled or deionized water, and fill only after a full charge as to not bubble the water/acid out.
Go to trojon battery website they got some good info there.
