Great stuff. I think that's only the 6th time ever the President's trophy and the cup went to the same team…quite a testament to how brutal (and different) the NHL playoff run is!
I know what you mean about the finish Don, I even got nervous re-watching the last 2 minutes on the DVR at 1:00 am! The playoffs can be absolutely gut wrenching.
I think my favorite part…
(not to take anything away from the players that won the cup)
The person that built HOCKEYTOWN will get another ring, this time as VP!!

All good natured ribbing of you all aside, the best team in hockey start to finish hoisted the cup as it should be. They are an amazingly deep squad. Congrats. [smilie=bow.gif]
However, I hope you all can agree that the MVP choice was a total mistake. It is not the MVP of the season it is the MVP of the playoffs and the Wings didn't win the Cup on Zetterberg, they won it on Ozzy. He got robbed. [smilie=bs.gif]

Hank was very Yzerman like in all aspects during the playoffs, leading by example on both ends of the ice. If consistency in play gets the trophy it belongs to Hank!
Osgood should have won the Most Important Player trophy if they handed one out in addition to the Smythe MVP, but you just cannot give the MVP to a goalie facing barely 20 shots per game. No matter how timely the saves and how good the few scoring chances against are, for the goalie to get it he has to be taking a barrage…
Good point, Duke. I listened to an interesting interview with Scotty Bowman on XM radio today which was after we won the cup. Of course he was very proud of the players, especially the defensive corps, but had many complimentary things to say about the Wings' management. Maybe some of you don't know that Scotty is still on the payroll as a consultant and actually scouted Pittsburgh for the Wings prior to their series with Detroit. Anyway, he said GM, Ken Holland, reminded him of Sam Pollock who was the mastermind of the Montreal Canadians dynasty years ago when Bowman coached them. He said the Wings are in great hands for the future as Jim Nil will take over for Holland when he retires and then Stevie Y will be his successor down the road. He also mentioned the skill this management team has with "assset management", IE: the current star players and those learning while getting valuable experience as well as those we don't even know about yet who are being watched and evaluated. Their chief scout in Sweden does a great job, eh? All in all, I think the team effort on the ice and that of those in the front office is a model for any sport team/organization to aspire to. Thanks Red Wings!
On the MVP thing… it just goes to show you how good the Wings are. It could have been Lidstrom, Hank, or Ozzie. If Franzen stayed healthy or Datsyuk would have had a couple more goals against the Pens than they would have been considered as well. Their depth is unmatched.
I do have to say that I agree with Scrappy though. Ozzie didn't have to make a ton of saves but he made very timely saves and had very few bad goals go in on him. It was great to see Hank get some recognition but I would have given it to Ozzie as well. Too close to call really.
