About 20-ish years ago we fished in the snow on opening day, in southern Michigan. The way this spring is going it wouldn't surprise me if it happens again this year. 😯 [smilie=bs.gif]
In all honesty I would prefer the weather to be like this and not like it was last year with the water in the 60's before the season opened. This year we'll at least have normal fish movements, normal turnover, etc.

The steelhead we have been catching are some of the largest we have caught in years…
Agreed!!! The number s are not what they were last year, but are still good… But the size has been incredible! January and February we caught a lot of little skippers, but the hens were all big and fat , then the last couple months everything has been in the 8-10 lb range, with a couple dozen over that. I even had 3 break me off that I would have mounted, 2 broke swivels, one was running through a log jam and it was pretty hopeless… And I would only think about mounting something in that 17+ lb range…absolute donkeys this year, its been fun!
I will say I let almost all these go FYI, and it very satisfiying watching them swim away…just not nearly as satisfying as watching a big spotted beauty…

Wow, I guess we're on a different class of fish. I've personally put my hands on about 100 this spring and witnessed a lot more and I've had the discusion with multiple people that these are the smallest adults I've ever seen. I've handled more 4-6 pound hens than normal and a lot of skippers. Made me think I'm back in the UP fishing the superior side. Of course we've had some fish in the 10 pound class but they have been the exception. I did land a 32 inch hen in march that made me say wow. Maybe we are fishing different systems, I mostly fish the grand and its tribs and the muskegon. Got up to the big man for one weekend this year as well.
A little differt water then, but not entirely. The last couple trips out have been more moderate sized, but through the end of Feb. into April it was rediculous, My bro. and I landed 9 over 8 lbs. out of one stretch, one of the monsters that broke a swivel was in this mix too, a giant double striped male, I had him on a sand flat twice and couldn't get him…bugger anyhow. But I am fishing everything between the Muskegon and the BM! I don't fish out of a boat in rivers so I stick with the smaller stuff… I also don't like fishing around people so I stay out of the Rogue
I tried a couple years ago, and about went nuts, there were people everywhere, and it was just not relaxing like river fishing is suppsed to be. I guess I'd rather sit home than pick a hole and cast at it for 5 hours till something happens to swim through.
I hear ya on the crowds, the rogue is truly rediculous although the White isn't much better. Muskegon is getting worse every spring for boats too. I grew up in Rockford and learned how to steelhead fish on the rogue so I still consider it my home water. Luckily I know all the nothing water ninja buckets that people overlook so I can still work around people and hit fish but yeah not much fun when there is 20 cars per access. I miss the UP where 5 people on a stream was "crowded".
