My uncle just called me to tell me about this thread he saw… so I figured I'd continue the rumor mill  I will be interested to see if this actually pans out.

Maybe I am lost but how would new regs effect this fish at all if they were in place already? On the other hand I would like to see if this rumor does turn out to be true and not another fish story

This fish may have been harvested, they would have needed a unused kill tag to keep it. The new regs will just reduce the number of fish killed by honest fishermen that's all.

I have verified this fish is legitimate and was witnessed by a CO at time of weighing and verified by a biologist. The fish was 59" and weighed just over 58# (they settled on 58# even). The scale needs to be verified but there will be a press release coming from the DNR in the near future.

You can feel free to pass this along on other boards.

I just realized how lucky I am to be able to fish these untouched bodies of water. World class fishery. Period.

The last record was 15, wasn't it? So, another 1/2" per year, if not less, and yeah — looking at 22+. I'll go with 24 years old, Bob.

Yes. I don't know off hand what the 8# (or more likely 10# if it isn't an IGFA line) record is currently.
