Most of that crowd doesn't "know" us. So lets use this opportunity to make them think and educate….

Not much you can do. As Mark Twain said, don't argue with idiots…

Hemi, I don't even know why I tried… Obviously, they are going to hang together in ignorance… I am done with that board. Disgusting… And now their almighty mentor has spoken…

It was a noble effort but alot of those guys don't want to hear anything that makes sense but if you got through to a couple then I say it was still worth it.

Very nice post Chad! I thought it was funny how the one guy blew the prices for everything up by like $100 bucks.

No matter how hard you try to be friendly and helpful and diplomatic, there are always people who will only hear what they want to hear and don't want to be told anything.

Especially not by one of the Gods of the Great Fish, Muskie. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

And I think BB has gone around the bend so far he's done a 720° by now.

Man… you guys are making friends fast over there. If you have anything MMA related in your signature and/or profile, keep in mind that your responses can reflect on MMA.

Not saying anyone is representing MMA in a bad way at all but just giving a heads up. There's a couple people over there that I would like to tell off/call out…

It's amazing to me that people can get so bent out of shape when someone like Chad or Will offer knowledge, tips and advice. Why do SOME people always think "my way" and are unwilling to learn from others? It makes me sick to see how SOME people respond to Chad's post. If they only knew how valuable advice from someone like Chad or Will is they might actually learn that their way is not always the right way and it's okay to learn from others. These are the type of people who act this way not only in the fishing world but in everyday life.

I mean just the other day on LSC, seeing some guy TARGETING muskies with very light tackle and taking forever to land the fish. He then goes on to grab it and set it in the little aluminum row boat as it's flopping all around. It took him forever to release the fish and literally "threw" it back.

Keep up the good work Chad and good for you to try and offer quality advice for others out there. It's ashame that people only choose to read what they want and instead of learning from someone else they'll continue to do it their way and the fish will pay the price.

I must seriously be diconnected… I have read, and re-read my post, and just don't get it…

I think the people who are defensive are the people who are guilty??? Maybe they don't like what they see when they look in the mirror…

I expected a response, but not this one… They are all like opportunists… One guy takes a punch and all the others flock and start swinging too… Without really looking at the message.

Whatever…

I think that mostly they're just cheap and don't want to be told to spend more money to go fishing, because after all, it's just a fish, and who are YOU to tell them what they need to do… Then this feeds their BS about muskie fishermen being elitists.

I don't get it either. I tried to see it from another point of view but couldn't…

I agree – whatever!

Thanks. I generally don't have this effect on people, so it bothers me a bit… I guess I was too definative… I should not have referenced people posting pics of the small fish… But there have been so many this year on that board that probably are not even 20". I also should not have ended my post with "watch it – practice it"…

Again, the trouble with words… the emotion can be interpreted many ways…

After going through the same thing for so many years I think this comes down to personality type more than anything. The straight to the point approach doesn't work well for certain personalities. Problem is… many of the people that message boards attract are this (these) personality type(s). You simply can't deliver a message of this type and make it work for all people. If you tried to say it to accomodate personalities that need to be hand held, you would have lost the more direct personalities along the way. I think you did a good job offering some personal experience while also getting to the point on the important parts.

I would agree… reflections often make people defensive.

Chad,
I agree whole-heartedly with your post on that site. If it made people at least think somewhat… then it was worth it, even if you got the backlash that followed. And hey… at least some people are on your side.

Yeah, I'm guilty of the signature for MMA's link. I was hoping it would just be an easy way for people to see our site, along with the tips page. I didn't want to put one directly to the tips page, cause then I'd have the EXACT same one you do.

Chad-

You should have gone after guys taking pics of 20" fish.

Look at it this way: you know my current struggles on this body of water and you know how bad I want my first St Clair Muskie. I would not bother taking a pic of a 20" fish. I'd be happy I caught an actual muskie but no need to take a pic of such a small fish. I don't have anything to prove to anyone but myself and have no problem releasing a small fish without a pic.

Some of these guys just set me off because you can see the lack knowledge but more importantly you can see how they really are through their posts. I truely think some are lazy and won't take the time to learn proper techniques and tools. They just want the thrill of catching a muskie and they'll take shortcuts to make it happen. Hey, I ask for advice a lot from you guys but I also think part of this sport is figuring out things on your own. These guys are selfish and might say they care about the fishery but if your not open to idea's, advice or tips from seasoned guys then your not serious about protecting our waters.

I know it bother's you and it should because SOME on that site and many I see on the water have very little concern for the actual safety of the fish.

Keep it up and I'm very very proud to be a part of such a great organization that cares so much and set's the bar when it comes to protecting our waters.

Or, we could be like Miami Vice except in fishing boats and gather as many as MMA members as we can and head over to LSC and take over the lake. We could all get ear pieces with polarized glasses and black suits. Dude, How sweet would that look!

Just kidding! Ha!

I can think of one off the top of my head, but I'll just let the Grim Reaper take care of him since he's so close.
