OK, is it just me, or is the website which centers around that big pond between Huron and Erie driving you crazy too? I rarely go there anymore, and it becomes more evident why within the few times I do pop in. What a bunch of uneducated morons with inferiority complexes… I am also very concerned about the lack of uneducated anglers that seem to be invading LSC… The ignorance runs rampant…

They seem like a bunch of ignorant and angry people. I saw a new bumpersticker today:
I wish ignorance was painful.

That is SO weird that you say that. I was thinking the same thing just last night. VERY uneducated.

I've observed the effect you're seeing before. A group of loud knuckleheads start their poisonous junk on a forum that isn't moderated well, and the smart, reasonable people get shouted down and end up leaving the idiots to themselves. Sad, and frustrating.

Not much you can do. As Mark Twain said, don't argue with idiots…

At least they are discussing things in the open and we have an opportunity to try and help with the understanding, that's better than the "closet clubbers"

One of the "pinned" subject (like our "sticky's) is Will's video for safe realeasing. I thought that was pretty cool. Almost every thread I open, there is a bad hold on a fish, an inferior net, inferior tackle, and just all in all, a lot of guys who seem like they don't really respect the species like a true diehard muskie angler should.

They have some members that just start trouble because they are stupid. They also have members that flat out hate muskies and are ignorant and basically stupid. Most of the muskies folks are pretty good but just like everything else it's the morons who stand out. I would agree that we continue to try and educate people and hope that we reach people interested in learning and just try to block out the morons.

You can thank Jeff (esoxfly) for that. He's a cool guy that works on the coastie heli's and hung a bunch of KTD sings on the bay.

This keeps getting worse and worse! Keeping a muskie over here, using 20lb flouro for line over there, squeezing a muskie in the eyes??? WTF? I'm with Chad… I can see the qualitly of this fishery going down the drain in the next 15 years because of neglect. Just look at what happened to Lake Simcoe…

well id say that those type of things have been going on for years, its just we didn't have forums where idiots get on and post how they don't care about muskies, or don't handle them properly etc.. Are there any actual statistics of the muskie fishing declining in that area? I wouldn't think it would be going downhill in the next 15 years, but who knows.

Aside from the uneducated forum users, some outdoor forums have certainly brought out the worst characters of society. That is why I no longer support certain forums, our local White Lake violator network, certain sport shops, and the combo militia-white segregationist organizations. They use forum screen names to hide their true identities. The DNR law enforcement knows who many of these characters are and have staff monitoring the sites. The DNR advised me to leave one forum when the combination of idiots, liars, violators, and white segregationist made it too dangerous for me to remain there as a moderator. The DNR has far more important projects for us to work on than waste time and energy on the problem forums. I'm glad I took their advice.

Just remember everyone has to start somewhere. Some people never will learn or even want to for that matter, and some want to and they need experience. I remember awhile ago when I gave a speech to my buddies on bowhunting with me on a lease. I told them if they didn't come over and shoot on my little 3-D course a couple times a week they couldn't hunt with me. Guess what I did, whack a 5pt in the shoulder, spent 5hrs chasing him(literally). After the deer was loaded up, I felt like an idiot. So don't put your foot in your mouth.

Corey – The difference I see is that you did not intend to do that and when you did you took the extraordinary measures to make sure that the deer was harvested. I went and looked at some of the material and found people who were saying inflammatory or morally questionable statements, what I did not see was people talking about how they accidentally killed a fish. You have a good stance and did the right thing by insisting your cohort be as good a shot as they could. So what I am saying is A.) dont beat yourself up for one bad shot and B.) I dont see what you did as putting you foot in your mouth nor do I see people being frustrated by the words of others as that.

Many of us have waged battles in the war against unsportsmanlike behavior and lost, sometimes we win, but continuing to fight the battle is important and if we occasionally violate our own rules then we should forgive ourselves just as we do with the many under-educated fishermen and hunters in the state. Believe me it is better to vent here than to try and take a hard line on that forum.
