I'm still waiting for all of you to send your angler diary and any scale or tissue samples!!! I'm not sure how much more I can stress the importance of these.
No data on angler hours and bodies of water must mean that there are NO muskie anglers in Michigan… seriously, with no feedback it's easy to decide that there must not need to be a muskie program.
If you need another Diary, or two, or three please let me know.

Angler diaries provide DNR with insight on fish populations
PORTAGE — Well-kept angler diaries may provide insights into lake and river fisheries that are not provided by traditional netting and shocking surveys, a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist suggests.
"I think the results from hook-and-line anglers is more representative of the fish population," said Tim Larson, fisheries supervisor for the south central region of the Lower Wisconsin River.
"The data we get from DNR shocking is totally different from what we get from hook-and-line results. Shocking turns up a lot of smaller fish whereas angler diaries show a higher proportion of larger fish."

It is unlikely this will happen in 2008 or ever again because we had such poor support from MMA members. People didn’t remember, didn't care or they didn’t want other anglers finding out where they were fishing. In all honesty it was a little embarrassing for me, but more importantly for MMA, that we couldn’t pull of something as simple as filling out angler diaries for the DNR.
There have been discussions about gathering information on a lake to lake basis using a drop box system.
