Wasn't going to post this since it's really absurd. But thought others may find it funny. Regardless, it is definitely true, can't make up something like this.
Last weekend, after a few too many the night before, I awake several times in the wee morning hours to a really dumb, surreal musky dream. I'm fishing with none other than The Will Schultz. Irritated by him at times, though also one to tip my hat to what he's accomplished, I find myself very much intrigued.
Does he just fish way harder and for longer hours? Or is he onto patterns and tactics most of us don't get, actual secret stuff even?
Right at the outset, I find out. Yes, and keeping in mind this is admittedly ridiculous and induced by frustration with muskies and heavy drinking, Will lets me onto his secret…
He fishes for muskies…on land.
Well not actual dry land, but top secret places like wet grass by lakefront home downspouts, where he first takes me in Murray's surrounding neighborhood, after telling me the boat would stay in the parking lot. But he says we still might drive it around the lake some to throw people off.
On the first downspout he shoots me an angry glare as I unzip the Lakewood closeby. I ruined the spot. These land muskies really spook easily.
The next spot has more wet grass draining the place, almost a tiny trickle formed in the yard, but it's still a sight to see as Will tosses a Pounder onto someone's lawn. A beast of a musky explodes out of the Fescue, Will has her on for a bit and she gets off.
At least my idiotic dream has Will not boating…or landing, every muskie that strikes.
Anyway, it's a blur after that, I finally slept better and don't have much more I remember. But I did end up in my boat in the end, actually on the waters of Murray, pondering this bizarre experience…and still catching no muskies.
OOOH CREEPY!! I used to have similar dreams of bass and trout from ditches that had no water in them. They were in the grasses. And lakes that were not really there but just wet grass. I used to drink a lot back then. I think I see the pattern you were referring to. Post booze front conditions. I think it may have come from an old issue of Mad Magazine about dog fishing from a truck. 😀 Mike
You're not alone man…..I've had dreams of casting over my driveway and yard of the house I grew up in as a child. Another weird one happened after I read an article about some type of catfish that dwells in underground rivers somewhere, that led to tip ups in the yard and over drains. I'm still trying to convince myself the biggest fish I've ever seen DID NOT follow a mag cisco dawg a cast after showing my girlfriend (now wife) how to 8. Looked over to her retrieve to "critique" and then too late at my own to see what looked to be a legit MONSTER. That is a NIGHTMARE! [smilie=brickwall.gif]
I am typically frustrated with these fish, and tend to do a lot of drinking and I have never flipped a suick at a flower bed or burned a buck tail over crab grass…. I used to think it was normal to NOT have these dreams. After reading this post I not only feel like I'm the weird one but I'm pissed that I don't have awesome dreams.
You don't have any other weird dreams relating to things besides fishing do you? I bet this is a direct result of Muskie frustration.. This is what I have to look forward too… Great! Ill keep my dreams to myself in the future although I have had fishing dreams but most of them coming from ice fishing.. Staring at a hole in the ice for hours on end will do this. I bet it can be used as some form of torture. I've actually had a dream of my tip up going off, fighting a fish for quite some time… And seeing a giant toothy gold fish that's goal was to bite me and came out of the hole after me..lol and I couldn't seem to get away! Never shared it with anyone though but it fits with this post.. I wonder if Will has nightmares of muskies following to the boat and then swimming away… Sounds horrible doesn't it?????? If anyone actually wants to experience this just come sit in the boat with me ill make the nightmare come true [smilie=brows.gif]
