Finally got around to putting my musky data into an excel sheet and found some interesting things when I got all the numbers done.
Of all the fish I have caught from 2007-present, 75% of them have come on Bulldawgs/SuperDs and DCG/Homemade Bucktails.
Bulldawg – 30 – 22.9%
Doube Cowgirl – 28 – 21.37%
SuperD – 21 – 16.03%
Homemade Bucktail – 18 – 13.74%
The next highest percentage from a lure is 3.82% (5 fish) from the Weagle lol.
I knew I caught a lot of fish on those baits, but didn't think it was that high of a percentage.
Of all the lures, only four baits had an average over 40" and three of those are topwaters. (Showgirl does have an average of 48", but have caught one fish only on it so figured I should leave it out)
Weagle – 43.2"
Satisfier – 41.7"
Wabull – 40.8"
Pacemaker – 40.7"
I would agree. Of every bait Jason Mentioned Ive only caught fish on the Weagle back to 2007. What you spend most of the time throwing or pulling will normally get the highest numbers. We have 54 fish this year so far.
1 on Bucktails double 8's
23 on Lokes
1 on a hoginator
13 on Slashers
7 on Little Claws
1 on a Rapala
5 on Rippin Shads (deep and Shallow)
3 on Cranes
We spent a lot of time trolling because it was working. Biggest fish were caught on #1 Little Claw 45 inch #2 Loke 45 inch #3 Little Claw 42 inch #4 Little Claw 41 inch and #5 Slasher 41 inch
Going back to our 4 fish over 50 they came on #1 Slasher 52 by 23 #2 Loke 52 by 21 #3 Nils master 51.5 by 21 and #4 Nils Master 51 by 22 . I did get a 47 by 23 at Murray on a 13 inch Grandma . Both of our Personal bests casting came on Little Claws both 47 inch fish between 25 and 30 pounds.
So yes its what you are confident in that get your fish in boat. You will see our numbers in the Slashers grow now as we didnt have any to start the season but now have 24 new ones ready for the rest of the year. Olive frog Lokes were very good to us this year on Lower crooked.
Trolling Slashers on St. Clair put an amazing number of fish from 42 to 49 inches in our boat in 2005 and 2006 . I have caught 4 fish on Bull Dawgs since they have been out. I have never caught a Musky on a double 10 Bucktail. Ive caught lots of fish on One old Weagle ( a cady model) but never a real big fish.
It pretty Amazing the differences between anglers and what they catch fish on. I have Clients in Southern Illinois who catch all their fish on little shad baits like Our Rippin Shads and Tuff Shads, Sisson bass baits and little number 5 mepps spinners. Then to the St . Lawrence and Georgian bay where those little lures dont even exist in anyones tackle boxes. Living here in the middle we have a much more diverse forage base and most everything seems to work on a given day in our lakes and rivers. Small baits like the Crane and little Mepps spinners to Pounders and double 10 bucktails. From Lake to lake we have very diverse conditions. Just looking at our numbers from this year and Jasons it looks like almost any lure could catch a musky here in Michigan. From the little Cranes and Tear Drops to Pounders and even 15 inch Crank baits they all seem to have a place In Michigan Waters. Cool post, Thanks Jason. Mike and Michelle

Good stuff Jason. Thanks for sharing. Care to share how many colors? (not necessarily which)
Haven't gotten that in-depth with it yet, but I can say that I have a couple main colors for baits depending on the lake. For Murray, I really like white for my Bulldawgs/Superds and rainbow/nickel for my DCG. For Campau, I like Walleye for my Dawgs/SuperDs and all red for my DCG.
I have caught fish on a lot of different colors out there like black/glow, black/orange, black/chart, sherbet, creamsicle, sucker, pink, blue, etc….but I will usually go with those confidence colors first.
