Have they completed the bass study at Whitmore Lake? If so would they put pure strain Muskies in. And would they put the spearing ban bac in place?

They used to have Tigers in Woodland Lake north of Whitmore, I think 23 & 96, any thoughts of putting them in there?

That's a good question, seems the ten year study should be done or close to done. However there are a couple other reasons I can think of that make those two lakes poor choices for stocking. Whitmore has trophy pike and that alone makes it a poor choice. Woodland doesn't really fit into the new management direction, more small "put-and-take waters" aren't what we should be stocking though we are going to maintain some. Expanded stocking on the Huron chain is more logical since it fits into the new management direction. As far as spearing bans being put on anything… Well, that is very unlikely unless the water has broodstock designation.

We should make the chain broodstock designated then

Well, there ya go Steve! If expanded stocking on the Huron chain is a possibility, maybe some will go into Portage lake. Isn't that one of your honey holes? [smilie=brows.gif]

Trust me, I've been down that road.

Rick, I don't know if that is part of Big Portage in Waterloo or another Portage somewhere else

Right! It's the Portage chain between Dexter and Pinckney. Portage, Baseline, Zukey, Strawberry, etc.. It would be great to have Kent lake stocked and have fish trickle down from there.

Absolutely Tim! All those lakes would be bada$$ to have skis in! Especially Kent, no wake lake. But the whole Portage chain of lakes is awesome too! I've waded the Huron river down that way many times as a kid. If it is still as I remember, I wouldn't doubt that they would have no problem with spawning in more than a few places. That stretch of the Huron is much more clean than the river is down this way.

Not to hijack this thread, but has there been any discussions or rumors of any lakes having the spearing bans lifted? I had heard some speculation of this being a possibility with the implementation of the harvest tag although I was never quite sure how serious it was.

The list is going to stay the way it is for now. I promise the MDAA will not be happy until they have all waters open, including St Clair. The fisheries order containing the spearing regulations is not scheduled to be reviewed until 2018.

Is the idea to put them in Kent and let them filter down or put them in Kent and different spots down river.

I don't think it has gotten that far Steve. Will just said putting more fish in the Huron chain would be more logical than stocking any smaller lakes and is more the direction of the new management plan. Hopefully I'm wrong and Will will further enlighten us…. [smilie=brows.gif]

Exactly right Rick, there are no plans that I'm aware of to stock any other sites on the Huron. However, this is a river system with GLMUS native and stocking more sites would make sense.
