In Georgian Bay there is always a chance. If it weighed in at 64 lbs in November and ate a 6 lb whitefish or Lake trout and you caught it right then and had it weighed within two hours sure it could. But the chances of all that lining up are so slim. I dont think our state record would have been as heavy with an empty stomach. There have been some real monsters released in the last couple of years like that Nippising 58. What do you think that one weighed ? Im guessing over 60 lbs. Lazarus has released acouple of real hogs that could have been bigger than Obriens but hes so secretive that no one has ever seen the pics. Macarthys 58 was over 50 lbs and theres always that 6 footer in the Middleville tail race on Thorapple right?? Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh . 61 inches is a great fish who is the angler? On the 70# thing… I must be getting more cynical as I get older but I'm not convinced any muskie has a shot at 70#. A true 40# muskie is very, very rare and a 50# fish is off the chart. There have been two 60# fish (O'Brien, Williamson) that I'm convinced are legit and even one of those has some questions. To get to 70# a 60" fish would need to have a 33.5" girth. If memory serves the only 60" muskies caught have all been released and even the two 60#+ fish referenced above were both under 60".

I agree will, those guys in the "glory days" added weight, a 40lber is a true giant and 50lber would be gigantic, 60lber, well thats very big. What is the current world record, is it still 69lbs? or did it go to 67?

The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame still recognizes the Spray fish. The IGFA recognizes the 67# Johnson fish. The true record might likely be the Willaimson fish but there's no way to prove the O'Brien fish was water logged. When cooler heads finally prevail the WR will likely be with O'Brien.

Being that O'Briens fish was weighed by certified scale it is really the most verifiable record out there right now. If I were to whack one like that it would go to the D.N.R. so they could study it, test its age and other things that would help to understand how it got that big. Ill bet O'Briens fish spawned a bunch of times and her Genetics live on in Georgian Bay. All it will take to grow another one like her is food. Kingfisher
