Thanks Will. Also the 3300? left in pond 1 to be overwintered and stocked at Hudson and thornapple. Hopefully good survival and better results tagging and stocking larger fish!
I asked Matt the total from earthen ponds and he said about 13500. Without MMA support for those ponds, it may have been a sub par year!

Can't count what hasn't been stocked… hopefully those fish do well over winter. The earthen ponds are going to get some love next year!!
Yeah I get that, just wanted to point out that there are a few more hanging around…
Also to add there was again a trade for 1100 Northern Strain fish that got put in Chicagon.
Any info on the private plant into Thousand Island Lake? seems a little odd for a private plant, only to put in 200 fish, and also to stock the Cisco Chain. I am sure there's a reason, just curious…

I was just messing with you… should have added a [smilie=biggrin.gif]
That private stocking could be from Boundary Waters Musky CLub. (edit: It was NOT BWMC)

We'll now maybe I'll catch one on Chicagon again

[quote="Will Schultz"]Can I wait to share info on the overwinter pond until after the banquet so we can all have a good weekend?[smilie=cry.gif]
Nuts, I suppose…
I'll keep it short… It's a very good thing we send fingerlings to Wisconsin each year, our broodstock lakes might get stocked this spring thanks to that cooperative effort.

Can't lead into it like that and not share the news.
I take it the overwintering was a catastrophic failure? Major Bummer…

Due to a misunderstanding concerning waterflow and ice cover the pond experienced a winterkill. It wasn't only a total loss of the overwinter fish for the broodstock lakes, there were also 200 PIT tagged fall fingerlings that were testing the impact on survival of PIT tagging the smaller fall fingerlings. If there can be any good to come out of such a terrible event… this may change how the brood lakes are stocked going forward. Instead of overwinter fish only, it's been suggested to stock both fall fingerlings in a lower number/acre and to also stock overwinter fish.

Did they have the air thing to keep the ice open? So what and when are we going to get, I suppose not the size we were hoping for. Does this still mean they are going to take fish out of Thorn & Hudson.
Yes, they have bubblers that would keep the ice open and they can also keep a constant flow of water going through the pond.
Anything that gets stocked this spring will depend on what Wisconsin gets out of their ponds. I believe Wisconsin holds their fish until May but I'm not 100% sure.
This does not change the adult transfer planned for this spring.
