Where would you like MMA to go in 2013?
I've challenged the board to start making the outings memorable. Each outing will have a meeting before and a lunch at minimum, if we can't make that happen then we aren't going to have the outing. It's the least we can do as a thank you for your support of MMA.
When you start posting where you would like to see an outing think about where and how lunch would be provided.
– is there a pizza/sub place nearby where lunch could be picked up
– a place on the water that could be accessed by multiple boats
– maybe there's a park with a couple grills and it could be a cookout
I would love to have the outings be like they were years ago with 20-30 people and everyone had a great time even if the fishing wasn't very good.
So… what do you think for 2013?
I think I may be obsessed with the lake, but I had a great time at the Hamlin outing this year, and there are plenty of places to meet.
Is it something you will try to set up regionally, kind of like the fishing reports sections, to try to make at least one easily available for everyone??? And then maybe one as more of a destination?

Doesn't really matter where. We have had better turnout in some areas but a destination lake is fine too. A destination outing in the Webster area in late November could be fun since suckers are usually available in quantity. A UP trip in mid-summer to a lake or chain with cabins has also had some interest in the past. We just need a couple people to own the outing and do all the leg work so it is easy to book/plan for those interested.
Keep in mind holidays, the Ovid tournament and the Bruce weekends, other than that any date is fair game.

I think a lot of times, it turns out that way anyways, since our outing are spread throughout the LP. It seems there is always 1 west side, 1 mid state, 1 east, 1 northern.
It's really too bad that a lot of the outings this year fizzled out. I can blame myself for part of that, as I missed at least 2 that I can think of off the top of my head. I think having a meeting before-hand along with someone willing to give a presentation on the given lake would really help boost participant numbers. Like Will giving a tutorial for LSC on the given month we would hold the outing. [smilie=brows.gif]

I agree with this completely. 3 years ago before the last Sanford outing, Duke did an awesome presentation of the lake giving tons of tips and then teased us with pics of the giants she holds. There was a really good turn out that year. I think a teaser meeting before the outing would really increase interest and maybe even some teasers posted to the forum for those that don't make many meetings.
Just to throw out a location, I know that the upper chain outting didn't see much attendance last year but a lot of people have been coming up the past few years and I think it has potential to see a good turn out given the right circumstances. I would be happy to volunteer to help organize it and make it happen
I would like to see another Margrethe outing. Didnt get quite the turnout expected last year there but the setup on that lake with the campground and picnic areas seemed great for an outing and Grayling was a short drive away for some food options…not to mention all the fish that should be in that lake…
I also second Chris on the Upper Antrim chain outing and would also be happy to help him set this up.

I too am always game to head up there! If you all need any help setting up, Im in there. I am sure we all have enough contacts to work something out for places to hangout/camp/eat too.
And as far as the prefish meeting goes, I think on some of these lakes, like hamlin, where not many people fish/ have fished it would be cool to do sort of like what we did on Hamlin with the thread in structure fishing, and have everyone be kind of prepared with an idea, and then actually continue it afterwards to put out what we found… not specific locations or lures or size/number of fish, but at least patterning types of cover, and other things to look for while exploring in the future. A lake like Intermediate would be a big enough option for this, or margrethe.

[quote="Steve S"]Hudson & Diane!!
Is there a suitable place on Diane to hold an outing?
Not that I could see when I was over there. Looks like very little access and surrounded by private property.
At this point it's been a few years since I've been in my own boat fishing, so I'd just like to make it to one.
Unfortunately I have not made any outings except for the Bruce Memorial, but I think Hamlin or I-chain then something on the East side like Sanford or LSC would be good choices. I'm fairly confident I can get the lodge on Hamlin which is located on the SE side of the lake off of Lakeshore Drive. My mother-in-law lives next to the launch which is also at the lodge & she can get at it no cost. I'll work with someone else and volunteer to co-host a Hamlin outing if we all decide to hold an event there.
Rob
The launch at Diane looks like it only has parking for maybe 10 cars. On the other side of the lake there supposed to have a dock and some sort of party store and gas station. Does anybody have any idea about this?
But on the other hand Hudson has plenty of parking, picnic tables, grills. I know it's a tough lake to fish, but aren't they all!! O.K. I'll stop flaping my gum and chances of a outing be here is when pigs will fly!! 🙄

Didn't we have one there a couple years ago? Hudson is a good option but would really have to be in early May.
So… This brings up a good point. There is nothing stopping us from having a "fishing day" on any lake. This would be no lunch and no planning other than "hey if you want to share the water with a few guys come fish lake _________ on _______ day." A chance for a few people to hang out but not an outing with all the things that should go along with an outing.
I'm also thinking that one day outings should be different from destination type trips that might be at a resort for a week, like a UP trip.
Steve, I'm pretty sure our three man crew will be out at Hudson on the opener again next season. Chris and Dale were there last year and said might do it again. I was thinking if we could gather a few more members that would be willing to go out there, maybe we could organize some sort of club challenge with the Michigan Muskie Hunters. Nothing big, just something for fun and bragging rights with maybe an optional low dollar big fish pot. Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea?
And as far as a club outing, I think it would be cool if maybe we could go down to the Ice Out Challenge as a group. I have never been there and I would enjoy doing it in this fashion. In the few tourneys I have been in, my favorite times have been hanging out shootin the chit before and after the event.
