Jason,Sorry buddy…my St. Croix Legend Rods actually work perfectly for Tarpon of all sizes….I used my 7'6" "The Jerk" rod on my outing with a Calcutta TE. I also will be using my 301E Curado and new Calcutta D which is nothing short of amazing paired up with my Legend Rods…
what size calcutta D??? I wish I could see these things around here, I'd like the 300, but would feel a little more comfortable with the 400 for some reason…
I got the Calcutta 401D. If your familiar with the size of the discontinued Calcutta 400 TE's it's much smaller in size. About 30% smaller and very very comfortable! I absolutely love it! For Muskie I'd go with the 400D…
It holds 140 yards of PowerPro 80# Braid, 5.1:1 gear ratio and 11.8oz. The X-Ship is amazing and love the new star drag on outside of handle rather than inside. The body is a "S compact" design and makes for palming it very easy and comfortable!! It really is a thing of beauty! I didn't think Shimano could top the TE series reels but it looks and feels like they just did!!
I've never fished with an MMA member I didn't enjoy fishing with and learning from, so I'd like to do more of that in 2013. I'm mostly a loner in no small part because I'm lazy and like going out on little or no notice as life permits, with no planning or coordination at all, and not trying to impose my dumb schedule on others.
I'd also like to find the patience to introduce new people to the sickness, which I rarely do because among other reasons, I know there's a good chance I won't be able to show them success to help get them on board. Plus I pesonally fish less effectively with newcomers during that process and with time on the water so valuable, I selfishly don't like it to be less effective than it already can be. These dam fish are tough enough already without spending much of the time trying to get someone else to fish in a way that even gives them half a chance.
But our future is in continued efforts towards better musky management including educating others with why they are so incredible and valuable, so I gotta' do more towards that by spreading the sickness.
I guess I'm in the same boat as you. I go when I can and don't have much notice. I hope it will be a little different this year, I got off midnites 4 weeks ago and I'm on afternoons. I now get 6 to 7 hours of sleep and feel much better.
I fish Hudson alot, because there are some big girls in there and I run across them once in awhile. 2: No Wake, don't have to worry about getting run over by some yahoo!! 3: On a holiday weekend it's not crowded.
I've taken some guy's out and show them what I know and that's not alot. I worry more when I have someone in the boat with me, that I keep them in the right position and don't screw them. And always hope I can get them a fish, which hasen't happened.
Wish alot of people would put the city they live in on there profile, so if you have someone close to you they might want to fish with you when you have a open seat.

Joe I feel like everything you said describes me and my situation, that's why it was one of my goals also. I made that goal also last year but failed pretty miserably. Another goal I made last year and failed badly at was to help the club out more so we'll see if I can get better about that also this year.

Man after reading everyone else's goals than looking back at mine I feel like a selfish butt. I focused mainly on my personal fishing goals and neglected the bigger picture although I do have a number of things I'd like to accomplish outside of just the fishing aspect, I just didn't list them here.
Nah, don't feel that way. I can't speak for anyone else but I spent 20 years being selfish about catching these stupid fish and now I really don't care what I catch. I would have quit fishing for muskies about 8 years ago but realized that I really like being there when others catch their first or biggest.
My completely unrealistic goal since 2004 is to catch a 60" or 60# muskie in Michigan. I've deemed that goal completely unattainable and don't even try any longer.

I couldn't agree more. Hands down the two most exciting fish to ever hit my boat were my brothers first Muskie and my cousin vinnys first, who is essentially another brother to me. My biggest most unrealistic long term goal is to become a guide, although I'm pretty sure there isnt the market for another guide in the area and the competition is pretty stiff. I understand I can't make a living doing it but having that as a second job is a dream of mine.
