I figured I'd start up this thread again for 2011. I myself am a very goal-oriented person, and also like reading what other peoples goals are for the coming year. It's also cool to look back at the end of the year and see how you did.

My goals:

-fish with my brother more (finally got him his first last fall, he's hooked now)
-fish LSC
-400+ hours on the water
-catch more fish than last year
-finally fullfill my very first goal I ever set for myself when I began musky fishing: catch a 50" and get a replica mount. I'm not huge into mounts, but I do want a 50"+ GLS and a 50"+ North. strain replicas one day.

I only have 1 goal this year. Get my family on the water more. My son and wife need to catch their first. My wife especially so hopefully she can at least somewhat understand why I'm obsessed. My son, because he's getting to that age to where he really wants to go all the time. He cried when I told him he couldn't go with me when I left for the Ice-Out. The other person I need to get on the water more is my Dad. He has only caught 1 muskie and it was a dink. (But huge in his eyes). He has enjoyed fishing since he was just a boy. But last year, he didn't get to go a single time. If my numbers go up this year, I won't complain. I've already fished 2 new lakes this year and I'm kind of hoping to hit a few more if the gas companies allow it.

Catch a fish. 🙂

This will be my first full year fishing for muskies so I'd like to educate myself as much as possible on seasonal fish patterns on the lakes closer to my home such as Campau and Murray, and learn to effectively fish baits to catch fish in these seasonal patterns.

Only 2 goals:

Catch a fish at night.
Catch a 50".

Not concerned with numbers, so much as quality this year!

Looking to up my numbers from last year was the first thing that came to mind. Jim's post really put things into perspective though. I too would like to get my Dad back out there more. He's getting up there in years and I'd like to enjoy the most time that I can with him. I also have to get my son his first fish. Catching these critters is always fun but watching a friend or family member get that first one is special!

Well, Michelle and I only really have one goal this season and that is to fish a couple of new lakes. Hamlin, Margarethe , Maybe Diane. We sold our Van today so we wont be going on any long camping trips this year. Not sure yet weather or not we are selling our 24.5 foot cabin cruiser or not. Gas prices are pushing us back into our 14 foot Jon Boat for most of the season. I think it would be cool to meet up with some of the new guys and Gals on the water this year. Talk Muskies and have a shore lunch. We will not be chasing titles this season so we didnt and wont be going to Indiana this year either. I am also working on two new lure prototypes. One is a wood Squirrly burt type lure that uses a long slasher body . Looking to make one that will do what the best burts do. The other is a top water similar to a Hawg wobbler in action. Ill be testing these all season. Mike

I really like this idea! Almost a non-official outing with people.

-catch a 48" +
-keep a more detailed log
-try to pay closer attention to the not so obvious/ subtle details
-meet some mma members
-not lose 35.00+ bait
-learn, be humbled– learn, be humbled–

Would love to meet some of you guys at the Ovid outing, (my closest musky lake) but going to be fishing Munuscong bay that weekend. [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

If you want to hit the Indiana lakes anyway, let me know. The oppurtunity to learn would be more than worth you driving down, leaving the car in my driveway, and we'll take my boat, and I'll drive down there. About an hour away from me. Not that far distance wise, but as you know there really isn't a good strait shot there.

I haven't been on the water Musky fishing in what I just realized has been 5 years this year.

I'm going to limit my musky fishing time however. Days with favorable weather, moon period days, and "feeding windows" I'm going to hit, but the dog days type days I'm going to stay home and fish Klinger Lake for smallies.

My goals.
Catch over a dozen fish.
One fish over 45"
If I'm able to fish certain waters-two fish over 45"
Fish a couple new lakes
'MAYBE' hire a guide.
Much more feesable if I can get someone else to split the cost. The only one I could get to do so is my Brother, but he will be busy with his boy's Baseball to the point I can't count on being able to schedule a day.

My main goal right now is to get my boat done for the opener

The only reason we go to Indiana is for early season and late season points fish for Muskies inc. This year we are not after any titles. We wont be going on many trips anywhere. Mostly local small lakes. Most likely see us on Murray, Thornapple, Osterhout and Lower Crooked for the most part. I would like one day on Hamlin and one or two on Margarethe. But hey, thanks for the offer. Maybe next season we will take you up on it. Mike

Once I get a working prototype Ill have you try one. My wife has been after me to build a better Burt FOR YEARS. I decided to give it a shot . She has one old Burt that really works nice and fish eat it. Ill be trying to match the action of that lure. Im hoping I can use a similar body to the straight slasher for machining purposes. Most likely hardwood. W e will see. Mike

Nice topic. Keeping it simple:

– fish more
– fish smarter
– meet new muskie nuts
– relax and enjoy it

Looking forward to some warmer weather and getting the boat wet!

Im thinking catch a fish in the Antrim chain while not with Will, preferably over 45" but you know a monster would nice too 😀
Also have a multiple fish day, myself. I have had 3 in the boat with 3 anglers catching one each, but never more than one myself. (this goal also excludes having Will in the boat).
And then of course improve on numbers, and keeping better notes on when, where, and what was going when I do catch them. Its easy to get suprised that you finally got one, and forget to make all the notes you need. especially like depth you were fishing and exactly where you were in relation to the structure, as oppsed to my usual, "I was right here, I cast that way with x lure"
