I'd be curious to know how many are still left in Belleville and not thru the dam into the Huron and to Erie? I've mentioned Mill lake, 150 acres surronded by state land, electric motors only (one DNR said you can put your big boat in if you keep the motor up) top depth 25', lots of weed and pads. Another is Four Mile lake, shallow with 2 16' holes, but it is also connected to the marl pits which go to 60'. Even with the bass study going on, can you mention which lakes to get a idea about what there thinking!
Well… go fish Belleville and find out how many are left.
Lakes that have been discussed are Woodland, Whitmore and a couple others that I can't remember the name of.
The lake can't be judged as a "good" lake to stock just by how it looks or how cool it would be to have muskies in. Is the forage available to support the fishery after the muskies are stocked? Is the forage available to support adult muskies? Is there local support for muskie stocking? Is there any potential impact to the current fishery? Is there any way for the fish to esacape from where they are stocked?
Forgot that Whitmore & Woodland had tigers in them. Fished Whitmore pretty good lake with big sand flats. Never been on Woodland but have heard it's a pretty cool lake. If there going to do Belleville, why don't they start below Barton dam have them all the way thru the Huron, Ford Lake, Bellivelle lake to Erie.

Apparently not a question that was asked when Murray was stocked?

If we were going to make a list of lakes where some/any of the "rules" weren't followed in the past we would have a really long list…

[quote="Smada962"]Will, is that Eagle Lake the Fort Custer Eagle Lake? I assume it is but there is about 500 Eagle Lake's out there.
Pretty sure that's the one. Eagle Lake, Kalamazoo (75 acres)
What's the reasoning behind the stocking of a 75 acre lake? I thought we were attempting to focus on larger lakes, 400 or 500 acre +.

Unique experience with minimal investment. I believe that lake is a no motor lake but I might be mistaken, if not it is no wake. Not a huge comcern really with such a limited number of fish required.

[quote="Steve S"]When is this bass study over?
I was wondering the same since it's such a hike to fish a inland lake. LSC is great but with a small boat sometimes it's unfishable on my days off.
.
I'll have to go back to notes to verify but I think we're still three years out on the bass study. Keep in mind that we're probably 7-8 years away from the first GLS stocking.
ricky – There's no such thing as that system being unfishable. St Clair River, the delta, parts of the lake and then you have 25 miles of Detroit River… there's always a spot to fish.
Apparently Ovid got stocked this week. Any numbers yet on these latest stockings? One fish per acre-ish?
On a side note, I hope we can do something about the fish going over the dayum dam someday soon. I've spoken to the park superintendant and expressed our interest in helping out if we can… but this is something the DNRE fisheries people need to spearhead (which I realize is an extremely poor choice of words…. sorry!).

Unfortunately the growth was slow this summer and recent fish have been under 10". This changes the #'s stocked to a higher level which in turn probably means that many of the lakes on the list this year will not be stocked. It is likely that Ovid was stocked with 1200 fall fingerlings, which is a huge concern and problem but I've been assured that this will be resolved and a new stocking plan will be in place by August 2011.
I believe all stocking should be wrapped by next week and I'll have the final numbers.

I'm currently working with Central Michigan University, the Michigan DNRE and the Iowa DNR discussing various barrier options and creating a graduate student research project. I should have more info in a couple weeks on this project but it looks promising at this point.
