Here are the lunge log entries for MMA Chapter 47. MMA members caught and released 526 muskies in 2008 bringing the total since 2001 to 3703. 51 of those have been 50" or larger.

Todd F.'s amazing, and Jason really kicked butt this year! He more than doubled his fish count from last year. [smilie=applause.gif]

I guess that's what happens when you have nothing better to do! 😈

It does help when you dont have school anymore and dont have a full time job yet [smilie=biggrin.gif] It also helps to have lakes like Murray and Campau 30-45 minutes away. I did learn a TON this past year with a lot of help from people on here. We'll see how much I can get on the water next year but my goal is to catch 70 (people always told me I was a dreamer haha). I wouldnt mind catching only one if that one was 50"+.

I think my big thing is missing fish on the figure 8. If I could've gotten hooks into all the ones I had willing to eat, I'm guessing I would have had 8-10 more. I'm going to watch my Musky Hunter TV series a couple more times throughout the winter, and see what they do differently.

Oh, and Congrats, Todd!

Good boatside maneuvers will put more fish in the boat but you're always going to miss some fsh. Im pretty sure even Will and Todd dont get every fish into the boat.

Some days are better than others for sure. Then there's the 50% hook-up rate of the Pounder – man I hate that bait.

Unfortunately it's completely true. It is a love hate relationship… I think you would get the same response from anyone that fishes it very often. The guys I know in WI and MN all feel the same way.

I've fished them, but the most I've had is follows. What makes these so bad at hooking? Is it the fact that there are only 2 trebles, but they're HUGE?

Hmmm… My guess is they get all that beefy plastic firmly in their bite, making it difficult to set the hooks.

The bait is just BIG. It doesn't fit into a muskies mouth very well at all and the hooks easily end up on the outside of their mouth. Sure you can hook some fish that way but they get off pretty easily.

Rookie question here: How often do you guys find teeth imbedded in these soft baits after a strike?

I'm not an old pro, but in my maiden year last year I saw none in soft plastics; one in a hard crankbait.

I've never found a tooth in a soft plastic. I remember you mentioning that and thinking it was odd, the tooth must have been broken by another part of the bait or it was stuck in the lead. Or maybe broken off during the unhooking process.

I've found tons in wood baits, in fact I'll bet most of my wood casting lures have teeth in them right now. Hard plastic baits aren't tooth proof either I've pulled a decent number from Jakes and Burts and even glued some in place because they were all the way into the body cavity.

Not sure why I didn't make the list, but I did get 12 in the lunge log this year. Not a good year numbers wise for me as I put the fewest fish into the net this year of any year I've fished for them. But I spent more time on tougher water this year (or not on Murray) and it showed. Also my hook up ratio was down this year compared to the past… and not a single topwater fish this year [smilie=frown.gif]

Congrats to all… wow Todd and Jason awsome years!!!

I'm not sure what The Sarge did, but here's my pivot table from the MMA Lunge Log '08, and you ARE on it, Scott:

Looks like he missed Tristan Smith, too.
