I am contemplating doing more trolling this year. The only problem is that I have a lack of room/storage on my small boat. Is there a 2 pc. rod I can use for trolling or should I just stick with a 1 pc? If a 1 pc is the way to go, I'll make it work somehow.

Don't worry about them being 2 piece rods, if strength is a concern. You'll be shopping for a glass or glass composite rod and they will be super strong. Sport show season is a great time to look for deals here in Michigan because of all the salmon trolling rods. Many companies make rods that will work just fine and you can probably pick some up for $25-30 each.

The aversion to 2 piece rods for most anglers comes from years ago when two piece rods weren't built like they have been for the last 15 years. 2 piece and telescoping rods are able to handle anything you can do to a one piece rod.

Thanks for the info Will. I did a little searching around and ended up answering my own question.

I have several 4 piece fly rods that handle Kings just fine. I know its a different application but like Will said the rods are made differently nowadays..
