Testing has been going well with the new upsized Talonz Little Claw. We are calling it THE CLAW . It is 7.5 inches long making it 3/4 of an inch longer than the Little Claw. Everything has been scaled up and testing has been pretty good . My first cast on 8/28/07 while fishing on Austin Lake was rewarded with this nice 40/41 incher which clobbered this Prototype Fire Perch. I went on to catch 4 huge largemouth bass and two Muskies with the same lure. The action is very similar to the Little claw with a nice look back kick out . This Muskie hit the lure on the second twitch/rip. We moved a bunch of other fish using three other colors of the same bait. Michelle fished the lure a little to quickly causing several fish to miss the bait completly. It seems that letting this lure pause is the key to the fish not missing it. This same tactic is deadly with the Little Claw. Here are a couple of pictures of the fish in the net with the new prototype hooked up. I will be starting production of this lure in November. 10 new 7.5 inch Claws are finishing up today and will be out testing this week. We have made several modifications to the body and tail. Ill post new pictures when I have them. Also we are almost ready to release the new 10 inch Slasher. Tests went well on Lake St. Clair tuesday. The lure looks great in the water but we still have to decide on the right diving lip. The body is all set though and that is the first step in creating a great trolling lure. Mike and Michelle
Yes , but double #10's are the rage. I cant take more than 10 minutes and its coming off. You got through an hour wow thats got to hurt
The way to use those is to use them as a throw back lure at a big fish. I have been told that the Abu 7000 4.3 to 1 ratio is the reel to use for cranking these big Bucktails in. I should have kept the big power handles for my Records ,would have helped with those big spinners. Mike
you hit it on the head with the 7000s. My brother has a heavy 8'6 rod with the 7000 and you can barely feel the bait when reeling it in. I sometimes have to give the rod a jerk to see if the bait is spinning. The power handle takes a little getting used to and will work you forearm a little bit, but if you plan on throwing big bucktails with any regularity i would strongly suggest getting a 7000 or another large reel with a similar gear ratio.
Sorry to hijack this thread with talk of double 10 tails but…
This might be surprising but much of it depends on whose double 10 it is. I threw a couple with heavier blades and they sucked. The blades didn't spin fast enough and the effort to get then spinning wasn't something that was even remotely fun. I've got a couple tied with bucktail and the regular weight blade and they are still a pain but they are tolerable. A Double Cowgirl (DCG) is the perfect design since there is little resistance on the tail and the blades are the right thickness. There's a reason that the DCG has caught 400+ 50" fish over the past couple years.
