I finaly got a start on my plan to make a bunch of bucktails this winter. Im trying out the idea of making the spinner section separate from the tail section, sort of like wendel's does, but with double tens and tinsel! hopefully it works [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

It'll definitely work, but keep it a secret ;). I fished all of last year with my bucktails in two pieces and caught a decent amount of good fish. The main reason why I started building them this way is to save money as you can mix and match blade/skirt color combos. Just make sure you have a good (bucher) O'ring connecting the blade section to the skirt section.

I did… and it was great, my first bucktail fish and first from up north! i can't wait to do it again! now to the skirts… The way I look at it, I have a 15 blades, and 15 skirts, now i have a 120 bucktails for the cost of 15! granted I won't use about 50 of them at least, but it'll be nice having the option! sorry Musky Mayhem. Im even thinking of canabalizing the few cowgirls I have and adding them to the pile.

Next thing is How much weight in the back??? I am thinking a little more than the cowgirl, but don't know if it'll hurt or help???

I always like them a little on the heavy side. The extra weight definitely helps when I want to fish the bait a little deeper and slower. It also doesn't really hinder me from fishing the bait high in the water column when needed as I simply engage the reel right as the bait hits the water, hold my rod tip higher, and increase my retrieve speed. I also like a little heavier bucktail as it keeps the bait from blowing out of the water when I'm really burning it.

These are my prototypes i'm playing around with. Still learning how to tie the marabou so that it gets the bulk I want and trying to experiment with hackle, flashabou, and bucktail.

I copied off of Jason/JP/Will's changeable design.

Have another one in the bottom of a river right now, I was testing my Okuma's and Bucktails and snagged a rock. Gotta bust the waiters out…

The walleye guys use the quick change clevies for faster color changes. Are they available in larger sizes strong enough for musky tackle?

Inhalers use these spiral quick-connects, and they're very heavy wire; much thicker than 0.050. No tools needed to change tails.

If I'm going to have the middle hook I might as well just use the split ring design and use my pliers for easy changing.

On my last trip to Cabela's I did purchase one of the spiral quick-connects with red/black blades for reference. I've got a ton of smaller blades that would make fine pike lures for White Lake, but will use your ideas in place of the spiral connect. I don't have the tools to construct the fancy spiral.

I've also had issues getting the blade section short enough, and heavy enough at the same time, so with the added length of those things, I imagine it would even harder. But I also suppose length is a personal preference, though having the blades "tick" the front hook makes some extra noise… I will stop now before I get myself into something I don't have time to figure out!
