I saw this on another forum and thought I should post it here. This is written by another chapter president:
If you are currently fishing muskies, you are already benefiting from the work that someone in some Muskies Inc chapter did at one time or another. I hear this all the time "what's in it for me?" The answer is that you've been getting the benefit all along with out giving anything back.
If you join any organization asking "what's in it for me", you'll never be satisfied…
The question is what talents can you provide that will improve Muskies Inc and the fishery?
It's funny that when I was thinking of joining M/I I KNEW that there was someone who felt they were not getting anything in return….
I've got a quick run down of costs for the SCCA (sports car club of america). I used to own a car I competed with in SCCA solo events, and selling it freed up time to Musky fish again.
For my wife and I to join including regional dues was $90 per year. Large national events were $70 each. Pro events were $70 plus a $60 license fee after the first event.
Each big event was a full weekend long so that meant on top of traveling all over this side of the country you had to put up with sub-par event organization, and deal with an organization that did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help regions with any kind of assistance short of sanctioning events which meant they aquired insurance. And NOT the most cost effective insurance BTW.
I could go on and on, but I can assure you that you have NO reason to complain about M/I.
You get a return on your SMALL yearly investment everytime you musky fish.

ps-Thats just part of "whats in it for me"
Well-said "Kid", Ditto and remember those of us who have Children, you should ask yourself, what's in it for them. Most of us are bearing the fruit of past Muskie programs, or the lack their off. We are working on maintaining and increasing the level of fishery for our children and theirs. It's important these days to give alternate past times to our kids; otherwise they end up in the "wrong" crowds. Spend some time with a kid take them fishing. 8)

Why join Muskies, Inc.?
Muskies, Inc. is a proven partner to work with the Federal, State agencies and local community fishing organizations by providing that important link to get the muskie projects moving. It is important to understand that individual members can have a positive impact. Members can contribute their unique talents which is just as important as the hard money contributions. Those talents come in many forms from business skills for organization, construction skills for the field projects, home baked cookies from ladies support staff, and donation of professional services such as grant writing. Time is money. You may not be in position to donate a ton of money, but every muskie fishing fanatic has something to contribute to the future of the muskie fishery. Thanks.
