Has anybody ever added weight to there bucktails and if so how did you do it???

I am thinking about adding weight to Mepps Maribous. They are way to slow for how I like to fish. Is it possible to just add a pencil weight to the split ring the rear hook is connected to or do you think that may interfere with the hookset?

Dan,
I weight my Blue Fox and Ghostails by crimping rubber core (without the rubber of coarse) or split shot to the shaft between the trebles.
I suppose you could try pencil weight or a bell sinker to a Mepps Marabou, but i'd be concerned about hook ups to. Only one way to find out.

I have used the rubber cores before but I don't see anyplace to do that on the mepps maribou. I like the looks of the baitsbut I have trouble fishing that slow the bait pops out of the water on a normal retrieve. I might as well give it a dance and see what happens.

No mepps for me but I have used a bell sinker or, if you can get them, a round drop shot type ball. Attach it right to the split ring between the body and the tail.

I can get the drop shot weights, never thought of that.
