WOW thats a bit of a shocker. No question, in its day (15 years ago??) Mindcrime was the baddest thing going! Too bad they wasted all those years in between on the opera ballads, but I'm sure that made them rich… will have to give it a try though

1) Led Zeppelin IV ( all i got to say is jimmy page )

2) Van Halen I
3) Metallica Ride the Lightning, black, master of puppets
4) anything by Judas Priest…
5) anything by Eric Clapton ( cream rocked )

If we are chosing the best guitarist now…well it isnt blackmore, he was good, page was epic…clapton is flawless and van halen and hendrix were revolutionary…but i have a dvd of Stevie Ray Vaghn's 2 austin city limits performances, even though some might not dig his music, if you seen him play you would be in aww. Eric clapton said once, after seeing SRV play he was going to sell his guitars…..

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i forgot to add something…

rainbow….are you kidding me… "holy diver"….give me a break…great karaoke song….if you own a mullet 🙂

ronnie james dio couldnt mop the floor with richie blackmore swinging his 4 foot frame around at people… besides Page was into black magic, he would have just put a Hex on them and that would be that…

I was lucky enough to get a chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughn live in Ann Arbor, shortly before his death. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and listened to most all of the rock music there was to offer. SRV was truly one of the best.

Tim D., like you I grew up in the 50's,60's, 70's. didn't get to see SRV, but someone who influnced all of them. Saw Muddy Waters twice remember (The Blues had a Baby and named it Rock N' Rool). I give you a partial list of who I've seen.
Queen
The Who
Led Zepplin
Alice Cooper
The Guess Who (Aerosmith opened up for them)
B.B. King
Sam & Dave
Steeley Dan
BTO
Rickey Nelson
Santana
Elton John (Yellow Brick Road Tour)
Eagles
Steve Miller
Aerosmith About 10 times
Foghat
ZZ Top
ELP
Richie Blackmoor's Rainbow
Bob Seeger
Heart
I'll stop now, this could go on forever, should sit dow some day and get a list of all of them,

This post is going in REALLY OLD direction, not saying its bad, but we gotta get with the times man!!

Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack, Chevelle, Mudvayne, Tool, 1000 Foot Crutch, Audioslave… too much good stuff out there right now to get stuck in an ol rut. Ok, I'm ready to fish

Midland……….sorry……..Wasn`t saying Ritchie was the best.Guess I got off the subject real quick as always.Ditto on hendrix,SRV and the EDWARD.I was thinking out loud.I was referrring to stage presence as I`ve seen most of them.Clapton/page….boring at commanding the stage.Clapton GREAT guitarist on vinyl..boring on stage.Page somewhat boring after bonhoms death on vinyl, not bad on stage during the"song remains the stage era 69-73",boring otherwise.

holy diver is not blackmore..
Was not referrring to Dio…
I was referring to blackmore/DP/rainbow….just him….69-present….who looks better at 60 years old????????LOL….surely not pete townsend or jimmy P.LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

clapton cleaned up well though……..

In there PRIME….DP/Rainbow could out crank..out riff…and blow the doors off any group on the planet…even zepplin/sabbath.

D/P=

In rock tour
fireball tour
machine head tour
made in japan tour

Rainbow=

Rising tour
on stage tour
Long live R/R tour

I`ll admit I`ve seen Blackomre on one of those "OFF" nights when he`s pissed and the audience only loses, and you leave with the feeling he is just as average as anyone else.

But see him on "ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS",blues,10 minute solos, fret board kamikazis, and smashed stratocasters…you`re left with the feeling of goose bumps.

sorry to ramble
Dave

Best summer crusin song of all time…..
